ZWIFT Rides No Longer Count Towards Challenges?

I was half way to completing the 2021 "January Ride to 200" challenge with ZWIFT rides and now my progress says zero.
My ZWIFT rides have always counted in the past challenges... is this something new??

  • Saying it was “never intended to work” is baloney. It DID work, for several years. Users relied upon it.some even bought expensive equipment based upon it. At this point it is removing existing functionality. Reminds me of when Sony removed the “other OS” function from the PS3. The good news for Garmin is that doe to the delays in shipping TACX Neos and NeoBikes the plaintiff class is much smaller.

Not sure whether baloney, but true nevertheless. Read it in the Badge Conditons (it was always there):

« Activity must be recorded using a Garmin or Tacx device. »

Why not. As long as it records the ride in a FIT file an syncs it directly to Garmin Connect (and not to Zwift), you should be all right.

  • Nice that you were able to find this information, for those that have been signing up to challenges in the past and completing without an issue now finding that something has changed understandably are not happy.  I have joined a challenge as usual through the app and checked the conditions which state "Cycling Activity" of which Zwifting is a cycling activity.  There was no mention other than this obscure online clarification on what now is or isn't valid.  It now appears that unless you use a Garmin product of which I use a Fenix 5, Garmin HRM and Garmin cadence sensor your activity is NOT a valid cycling activity.  And yet Garmin run Zwift events and sell smart trainers that connect to Zwift.

And how does it prevent you from recording the Zwift activity with your Fenix?

Personally when I have trainer connect to zwift (Apple TV) and my hr through the watch broadcast , if I start and activity at my watch also the watts in the zwift goes like 200,200,80, 205,200,90 there are drops all the time so I can’t (obvisously tacx smart trainer) .

  • Because there is a discrepancy in power & distance, I completed a 103km ride which recorded as 83km.  Therefore not accurate or usable.  Regardless of this issue, Garmin has made this decision based on economics and it is clearly not sitting well with its users.

Then enter the correct final distance reported by Zwift, into the Fenix activity in Garmin Connect.

  • You seem to have an answer for everyone's problem.  That is a workaround and does not fix the problem.  We don't want workarounds.  If you cannot see that there is an issue that Garmin needs to address then maybe step back for a moment.  I have raised this issue as a support ticket and I suggest others do the same.
