Trying to map a route over roads I’ve ridden loads and mapped on my garmin 830 before but keep getting this error message. Is there an issue with garmin in the U.K. today?

  • Not surprised this has been going on for a while but I haven't noticed as I don't often create or edit a route in Garmin Connect. Ironically, over-enthusiastic 'snapping to a popular route' has been my main frustration with the Course Creator in the past. I've quite often made what I thought was a small change in one part of a route to find I had inadvertently changed much larger parts where 'follow popular routes' had worked its unwanted magic. It took me a long time to realise I had to add 'manual anchors' (don't know what Garmin calls these - I mean 'click on the course to add a blue circle') at key points to protect against this. I am surprised this does not appear to be well documented anywhere (or, more likely, I missed it). At any rate, while there is no 'snapping' at all this is a problem for another time. 

  • Not sure if anyone ever called when the issue first started. The US is now on holiday until Saturday. If the issue persists at that time, I'll try to engage support again.

    As promised, I engaged Garmin Support from the USA this morning. I suggest that anyone with this issue that is currently in Europe, contact Garmin Support. Chat or phone works best.

    • Session started between Garmin Support and seilogramp
    • seilogramp: Using Garmin Connect to create a course. I am unable to use popularity routing in the UK. Receiving error message - "Oops, we have limited popularity data for this area of the map. Use another drawing method to add new points."
    • Garmin Support: Hello, I am happy to help. Is this for a cycling course?
    • seilogramp: Yes. Tried running with same result. Seems to be the same issue as what occurred about a month ago. Case number 151830.
    • Garmin Support: I have not seen this before and I am still waiting to hear from my team. Have you tried using a different browser
    • seilogramp: Same issue on Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. If it helps, I tried several continents. None of the major cities in Europe work for popularity routing. All locations in North America work fine.
    • Garmin Support: OK, Let me see if UK is available if not, I may I have you reach out to them on Monday.
    • seilogramp: How do I reach out to them. I'm currently in the USA.
    • Garmin Support: Oh, are you trying to do the UK courses from here then?
      seilogramp: Yes. This has worked in the past.
    • Garmin Support: Ok, I am not too familiar with this. But I am going to see if someone in the cycling area can help. One moment
    • Garmin Support: Ok, What I can do is. Email you. I will be honest, I am not familiar with this. I would like to get more insight and see what it is we need to do and I don't want to keep you waiting. Are we able to have permission to access your account?
    • seilogramp: Yes.
    • Garmin Support: OK, I am going to take this information and I will email you once I get more insight. I can not promise it will be today though and for that I apologize.

    Meanwhile, it's still possible to use Custom Drawing Follow Roads

    Many thanks Seilogramp. I emailed Garmin Support at around the time of my original post (Chat not available 'on my product' and Phone support system put me on hold then offered a call back in about 90 mins.) I will post an update here with any response.

    In the meantime, I hope you were able to enjoy a good Thanksgiving.

    I can’t design a run circuit in my neighborhood anymore (since 24/11/20) from my house point in the app. The answer I have when I trying is there is no popular track in your area but I did it a lot of time during the 4 last years.

  • Former Member, this is currently a known issue on Garmin Connect Web, mobile iOS, and mobile android apps.

    I have created courses from my home location as recently as last week however when I’ve tried today I get a message stating I can’t create due to popularity data even though I’ve tried using roads on the popularity map - do you have a problem at your end ?

    Same issue. Trying to plan course along route used many times before, but keep getting error message of “Limited Data Availability “ Deleted and reinstalled app with no effect. What’s going on Garmin U.K.?

    Hola, desde hace 4-5 días no puedo crear trayectos de entreno en la aplicación Garmin Connect. Sale un aviso que pone “Datos disponibles limitados” “Lo sentimos, los datos de popularidad para esta área del mapa son limitados. Es posible que no puedas usar esta función en esta área.” Esto antes no ocurría y podía crear mis trayectos de entreno sin problemas. ¿A qué puede ser debido? Gracias.
