does anyone know if i can manually adjust my step count. i added a manual activity but the step count doesn't adjust to this knew activity or mu intensity minustes?? is there nother way to record this, im new to Garmin and with fit bit you could do these things?? Help!!!

  • I attached my forerunner 735 to my shoe (no idea, how that should fit on my ankle) when walking on a treadmill while working. (Hands stable on the keyboard, no change here for collecting data).

Garmin collects about 1.5x the steps to what the treadmill lists.. I haven't found a way to tie the watch to my shoe for it to measure accuratly, it is always too high or too low.

If it really is for legal reasons, I could think of a lot of ways to cheat that data (like giving the task to my son to build something with lego..). Really sad that there is no option, to add step data differently.

Attaching it to the shoe makes defies the purpose of attaching it to the ankle, because first of all it won't measure the HR, and then (as you saw yourself), if not fixed properly, it will skip around and register false steps. If you do not care about the HR during the workout, you can as well keep the watch in the pocket.

The purpose of attaching it to the ankle is that it continues to read the HR. If the wristband is too short for your ankle, you can get a wrist-band extender in any dive shop, or on Amazon, AliExpres, eBay, etc for a few bucks. Or you can fix it with a sock, sweatband, bandage, elastic tape, scarf, or similar.

  • We hiked Machu Picchu.  So frustrating to have 3,000 ish steps at the end of the day due to walking poles.  My wife was using walking poles and a Fitbit.  She showed over 30,000 steps.  They have to find a way to compensate for walking poles.

  • Easy fix for that...

Garmin will not allow any external sources of steps data, or manual editing of daily steps or activity minutes, because they are contractually bound by many insurance agencies and bigger corporations, who often use the step and intensity minutes data from fitness trackers for calculating benefits in health insurance. You have to track the steps with a Garmin device.

You can EASILY tag the data as edited then the companies would know that it was entered manually and they can filter it out.

This is 100% an ISSUE.. The HR Monitors don't work for steps with the Instinct either so don't bother

If I push my patient's around the hospital on a gurney or wheelchair  those steps don't count???

Mom's that take their kids on a run with strollers???

This issue needs solutions not excuses

  • I didn't think putting it into my pocket for whatever reason. Data is sort of fine (still 10% diff). Fine for me but not really a solid solution.

With all the possibilities to juke data, I'd be happier if I could just add the accurate step data from my treadmill though..

  • I'd put it on my ankle if it fit. But it doesn't. I get that it's for insurance but that's some dumbass logic. Why not convert steps from miles walked when you push a stroller? There are widely accepted formulas for step conversion for insurance companies (i've done it for 3 different ones, Anthem, Blue Cross and I forget the third). Laziness it sounds like.

  • So frustrating. I went on a walk. It was cold, so I was wearing mittens. I accidentally hit "bike" instead of walk and only 1/4 of my steps registered. Great. I wish there was a way to change this.

  • That shouldn't matter, as steps are recorded separately from the activity and are based on watch movement detected by the accelerometer. Possibly due to the manner in which you were holding your hands?

Unfortunately not, all cycling activity types and couple of others, suppress the steps counting. The change was introduced about 3 years ago intentionally, just to avoid accidental recording of steps during cycling, driving, etc. So I am afraid there is no way to get the steps back, apart of shaking the watch, or putting it into a washing machine (happened accidentally to my wife, and she got some extra 15k steps Slight smile )

  • I know it's an old post, but thank you! I went on a 3+ mile walk last night just to get my streak and missed the midnight cutoff by a few hundred steps. I wasn't wearing the watch the whole day until about 9:30 PM, so I don't feel like I'm cheating by manually entering the steps, as I know I walked plenty throughout the day without recording. However, at first I thought I could change the clock back on app and watch and walk around a bit today and it would record it as yesterday's steps, but that didn't seem to work. At least with your workaround I get to keep my streak. Silly, I know, but it does help with motivation.
