ATTN: iOS Users with issues after updating to iOS 13

I Am Having Issues with My Garmin Watch After Updating to iOS 13 on My iPhone

With the released of iOS 13, some changes in the way that your Garmin device communicates with your phone have changed.  Review the following symptoms which should solve your issue.

The Garmin Connect app displays the message "Bluetooth is turned off"


iOS 13 requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Connect app.  Below are steps to enable this setting.

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Scroll down and select Connect

  3. Toggle Bluetooth Sharing on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.

I Am No Longer Getting Smart Notifications on My Garmin Device


To correct this issue follow the steps below:

Check Bluetooth Settings

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Select Bluetooth

  3. Under MY DEVICES select the i icon next to your Garmin device

  4. Toggle Share System Notifications to on

Check Notification Settings

  1. Select Notifications

  2. Set "Show Previews" to Always

  3. Under "NOTIFICATION STYLE" select Messages

  4. Under "OPTIONS" set "Show Previews" to Always (Default)

Update your phone to iOS 13.3.1

Why Do I Need to Keep Signing Into the Garmin Connect App on My Phone?

Garmin is aware of an issue where the Garmin Connect app requires you to sign in when you open the app on an Apple phone.  This can occur when:

  • The phone is rebooted
  • The battery on the phone runs out of charge
  • Some reports of the issue randomly occurring

Apple has released a software update for your phone that corrects this issue. To download and install  OS 13.3.1, refer to the following Apple instructions: Update your iPhone, IPad, or iPod Touch

    I have a Fenix 6X Pro and have gone through all recommended steps and still cannot get text notifications on my watch. I get phone notifications but not texts.

    I have done all updates, removed/added my device again, all sorts of Bluetooth pairing, on/off, and removed my device from the Bluetooth list to add again. It’s been all week that my vivosmart 4 can’t connect to Garmin servers. This is beyond frustrating because essentially my app is useless now and everything is stuck on my watch.

    Has there been any fix to this issue? No fix for this length of time is unsatisfactory.

    I agree. This basically ruins the most important element of the smart watch feature for me. I can’t have my phone lying around showing the preview of the text message for anyone in the vicinity to see.  Really disappointed in this change.

    Its time to change smartwatch.
    Es wird Zeit Alternativen zu suchen. So kann und wollte ich keine smartwatch. Da hätte auch eine Uhr für 10€ gereicht.

    Yesterday when my watch needed to be recharged and died, suddenly the app can sync to the watch again once it fully charged. No idea if letting it die and then recharging is a coincidence or the issue is fixed for good....

    I just bought the watch today and thought this was the best choice for me. Now I am thinking of returning it since I don't get any text messages notifications at all. Also Watch Face does not work. I am using iPhone 7 with VivoActive 3 and 13.2 iOS. I read through some of these threads for solution but none of them worked... so disappointed

    I like the Garmain style but seems like they don't work well with iOS. I bought it today and will return tomorrow if I can't fix the issue

    After upgrade, the ios I have faced a problem that is the device are not working properly and the apps are not working properly. That's why I have to factory reset iPhone Without Apple Id Password to fix the issue. If there is another way to solve the problem then please told me.
