ATTN: iOS Users with issues after updating to iOS 13

I Am Having Issues with My Garmin Watch After Updating to iOS 13 on My iPhone

With the released of iOS 13, some changes in the way that your Garmin device communicates with your phone have changed.  Review the following symptoms which should solve your issue.

The Garmin Connect app displays the message "Bluetooth is turned off"

iOS 13 requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Connect app.  Below are steps to enable this setting.

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Scroll down and select Connect

  3. Toggle Bluetooth Sharing on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.

I Am No Longer Getting Smart Notifications on My Garmin Device

To correct this issue follow the steps below:

Check Bluetooth Settings

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Select Bluetooth

  3. Under MY DEVICES select the i icon next to your Garmin device

  4. Toggle Share System Notifications to on

Check Notification Settings

  1. Select Notifications

  2. Set "Show Previews" to Always

  3. Under "NOTIFICATION STYLE" select Messages

Update your phone to iOS 13.3.1

Why Do I Need to Keep Signing Into the Garmin Connect App on My Phone?

Garmin is aware of an issue where the Garmin Connect app requires you to sign in when you open the app on an Apple phone.  This can occur when:

  • The phone is rebooted
  • The battery on the phone runs out of charge
  • Some reports of the issue randomly occurring

Apple has released a software update for your phone that corrects this issue. To download and install  OS 13.3.1, refer to the following Apple instructions: Update your iPhone, IPad, or iPod Touch

  • I am having the same issue with my Garmin 920 XT.  I am not able to pair to my iPhone 11 running iOS 13.1.2.  The phone simply does not see my Garmin device, even when it is in pairing bluetooth mode.

My 920XT is using software version 9.90; Garmin Express says that it is up to date.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Yeah I don't agree with this answer what so ever as I am receiving notifications on my Fenix 5x+ from my email and various other things just not from text or FB messenger. This is not an iOS issue, this is a Garmin issue that needs to be addressed asap and not written off just so a ticket can be resolved to stay within SLA.

  • Hallo Garmin, macht Euren Job und bringt die Software zum laufen.

  • das solltest du lieber deinen Apple Göttern mitteilen, ein OS update soll Schuld sein, das Garmin nicht sofort eine Lösung hat?

  • Ok so if this is the final solution that you need to have previews to Always or "When unlocked" this means I am parting from Garmin watches.

This solution is clearly not acceptable in many (business) environments and means a huge privacy concern since I do not want or allow any bystanders to read my messages on phone screen.

Thank you Garmin for years of good "partnership" but I guess now it's time to move on.

  • OK I've tried just about every combination and I can not get my Edge 1030 to pair with my 11 pro (iOS 13.2), I had the same issue with 13.1.2 as well and I've going to start looking at Wahoos if this is not fixed soon. I've deleted and re-installed the app, I've "forgotten" the bluetooth device, I've started just about everything from scratch and various different points. I've toggled the bluetooth access in settings, everything. I get as far as "It looks like something went wrong during setup.", very useful - NOT.

  • My Vivosmart HR+ couldn’t connect after the upgrade to 13.1 &13.2. I had to delete the app & reinstall it. Super assistance from Sara on the chat.

  • after the upgrade to 13.1 & 13.2 My Viviosmart HR+ Though connected was seen by the app as ‘not connected’ to Bluetooth. The solution was to remove & reinstall the app.  Great assistance from Sara on chat. Sorted in no time.

  • I’ve tried that, mine still fails :-(

  • Try a forces shutdown on the watch.
