ATTN: iOS Users with issues after updating to iOS 13

I Am Having Issues with My Garmin Watch After Updating to iOS 13 on My iPhone

With the released of iOS 13, some changes in the way that your Garmin device communicates with your phone have changed.  Review the following symptoms which should solve your issue.

The Garmin Connect app displays the message "Bluetooth is turned off"

iOS 13 requires Bluetooth Sharing to be turned on for the Garmin Connect app.  Below are steps to enable this setting.

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Scroll down and select Connect

  3. Toggle Bluetooth Sharing on

NOTE: For the best user experience with your Garmin device and your phone, the Location setting should be set to Always and all toggles should be set to on.

I Am No Longer Getting Smart Notifications on My Garmin Device

To correct this issue follow the steps below:

Check Bluetooth Settings

  1. From the iPhone, select Settings

  2. Select Bluetooth

  3. Under MY DEVICES select the i icon next to your Garmin device

  4. Toggle Share System Notifications to on

Check Notification Settings

  1. Select Notifications

  2. Set "Show Previews" to Always

  3. Under "NOTIFICATION STYLE" select Messages

  4. Under "OPTIONS" set "Show Previews" to Always (Default)

Update your phone to iOS 13.3.1

Why Do I Need to Keep Signing Into the Garmin Connect App on My Phone?

Garmin is aware of an issue where the Garmin Connect app requires you to sign in when you open the app on an Apple phone.  This can occur when:

  • The phone is rebooted
  • The battery on the phone runs out of charge
  • Some reports of the issue randomly occurring

Apple has released a software update for your phone that corrects this issue. To download and install  OS 13.3.1, refer to the following Apple instructions: Update your iPhone, IPad, or iPod Touch

I´ve installed iOS 13.1 upgrade and revised that Bluetooth Sharing on Settings was enabled, and now it works! My 530 is again paired.

    Thanks for your help!

What if we do not want our messages to show previews on our iPhones?  I like many others want my texts to not display when they come through.  Is this going to be fixed?  It was never an issue before...

What if we do not want our messages shown on our iphones and want to keep it that way?  Will we no longer be able to get notifications on our Garmin devices for texts?  This was never an issue before...

I'm with jshell35.  I had Show Previews set to [off] before the update and had no issues.  To clarify, pre-update, previews weren't shown on my phone, but *were* on the watch.

How about time? Now 2019.09.25  time 10:09. The clock shows 24.09.2019 time 4:37. Second day in a row. Everything updated.............................

The clock shows the wrong time. Bad information. Nothing works. Though everything updated.............

  • I can't pair my Edge 530 to Garmin Connect via an iPhone 11 running iOs 13.1 - get past the screen where it asks to confirm the passcode and then constant error messages.

Appears the phone is connected to the Edge as I can access Strava routes via the Connect IQ app but the device will not pair in Garmin Connect.

  • Due to an iOS13 privacy change, notifications are no longer sent to connected devices if the Show Preview settings is set to Never. With iOS13 this setting must be either When Unlocked or Always to receive notifications on your connected Garmin device.

Device is connected fine after ios update but steps wont push through to app.

  • Given the paucity of feedback or action based on user feedback on these forums; do we think Apple will be more receptive to customer feature requests than Garmin?
