Duplicate entries in Apple Health

I am on iOS 11 with the latest version of Garmin Connect. When looking in Apple Health I see lots of duplicate entries (same time and duration) from Garmin Connect in my activities. A quick Google shows people were having this issue back in 2015 but I've not seen any simple solution to stop it from happening and it is becoming more and more irritating.

I know Apple Health may not be the best application but I use it as a central repository.

Does anyone have a simple solution for this (other than buying an Apple Watch and using a Wahoo Tickr with the watch).

thanks

Alex

  • Hi, I read mixed messages. Any idea what will now happen if I re-enable Garmin Connect to link directly with both Strava and Apple Health? Will I have duplicates in Apple health or is this solved? I do not want to have duplicate entries which I have to clean up ... Thanks!!

  • I have been using the Fenix for only a few months and the AW for only a few months longer so I don't have the volume of history some others do.  When I turned the GC feed to AH back on, I did get duplicate GC entries of workouts already sync'd by Strava.  When I turned off the Strava feed those entries didn't delete.  I deleted them from AH manually.

I don't know a thing about writing code, but there is a whole word of apps that successfully share data and it's really disappointing that Garmin can't get this right.  I left Suunto after decades of loyalty because of the changes they made to the Suunto experience and now find that Garmin is not much better.  I still have Suunto devices..  Might make sense to ditch Garmin (actually will be my second time doing this as I had a Fenix3 that suffered from the altitude issues).

  • What are you describing is not GC issue! This is on you, GC doesn’t have access to data other apps are writing to AH.

  • Guys, I need someone to confirm me on this...but...I think the duplicates are back.

This is ridiculous. I just logged a 4km walk and it showed up as 9,5 km in AH.

    Holly hell.

  • Not sure if you're response is directed at me.

Prior to v4.41 and with a direct feed between GC and AH, EVERY workout in GC would be duplicated in AH each time you opened and sync'd GC.  When AH was launched, there would be five, ten even twenty instances of the same workout recorded in GC displayed in AH.  Scroll back.. you'll find pictures of it.

I'm not a programmer so I don't know if the problem was how GC was sending data to AH or what AH did with the data from GC but I don know that IS NOT on Me.  This was without any intermediary application.. just using GC and AH how they are intended to be used.

As far as the dupes I saw once v4.41 was installed...  they were there prior to updating GC.  Fully expected those to be duplicated once GC pushed its's data out to AH.  Can't complain about that.

  • and now it keep adding haha

  • That would be a different issue.  The problem this thread is referencing is seeing many entries of the same workout listed individually in AH.  At least that's the problem I was seeing.  It was not an issue of inflated values it was clearly multiple entries of the same workout repeated every time GC sync'd with the watch.  Sync ten times before launches of AH and you'd have ten of the same workout.  Close AH and sync GC ten more times... now you would have twenty entries in AH.

  • And you updated to v4.41?

  • yes, that's the point. It seemed to be ok for a couple of days, it took the running data as it should, until today. Now there are these inflated values which look like it's doubling the data before adding it on AH. What's sure is this app is broken in more ways than one :P

edit: my bad, this is the issue reported in another topic, still not fixed on 4.41 It adds the step distance with whatever walking or running distance to create an inflated value which is then imported in AH

  • As of this week I am seeing duplicate entries as recorded in GC pushed direct to AH. This issue DID seem to resolve itself a few weeks ago shortly after the update that fixed how AH imported GC sleep data. However, it appears to be an issue again. Screenshots to follow.
