Duplicate entries in Apple Health

I am on iOS 11 with the latest version of Garmin Connect. When looking in Apple Health I see lots of duplicate entries (same time and duration) from Garmin Connect in my activities. A quick Google shows people were having this issue back in 2015 but I've not seen any simple solution to stop it from happening and it is becoming more and more irritating.

I know Apple Health may not be the best application but I use it as a central repository.

Does anyone have a simple solution for this (other than buying an Apple Watch and using a Wahoo Tickr with the watch).

thanks

Alex

  • I experimented and found I can synch all items from Garmin Connect directly EXCEPT Workouts and nothing else duplicates. Seems to be “workouts” is the only one. So stuff like steps, hr, calories, etc are all via GC. Only Workouts I send through Strava. Also when going Strava, I only do “workout” and “cycling distance” in the Apple Health <> Strava options.  The rest I keep via GC. Seems to be working.

  • can you post a couple of screenshots? One with strava configuration and one with garmin connect? From the health app I mean.

  • Same result here. All information is synced correctly except the work out information. This seems to be duplicated (I see some workout sessions 3 x). I am deleting them manually for the moment. Why Apple health is duplicating the data is not known. If more info is needed, I can provide (screenshots etc)

  • AH is not doing anything, data get pushed to AH. If it gets pushed multiple times without checking if data is already there, then we get duplicates.

  • That's not true. Walking and running distance is getting doubled in a single entry. I had a 3.1km walk and garmin inserted a single entry of 6.2kms.

  • OK! Interesting. So all activities are duplicated. It is helpful if you want to achieve your Apple activity "rings" :-)

  • I am not seeing this.  I was getting duplicate entries but never were the stats changed (doubled).

  • Oh, and cycling distance also goes into walking an running distance instead of cycling distance. It's a mess.

  • This is not what I was seeing.   The duplicate entries did not result in extra miles for the daily exercise ring, but the monthly totals were inflated.

  • thats because the field is "walking + running" distance. They dont split it out. I find I can send that directly to AH from GC. That way I get credit for steps taken as well. Its only "workouts" that goes through Strava.

And to me yes, it seems to be a GC issue. If it were AH, then other items would be duplicating (not just from within AH, but from other apps writing to AH like Strava) which they dont. AH seems smart enough in most cases to not count the dupes but if you use 3rd party apps like Healthfit, all their cool trending graphs, etc are skewed.

I'll see if I can post a screenshot of my set up.
