My venu keeps disconnecting from Bluetooth on my phone and needs to be reconnected manually. How do I get it to automatically reconnect?

every time ai leave my phone downstairs and I go upstairs out if Bluetooth range my Venu disconnects from Bluetooth on my phone and needs to be reconnected manually. How do I get it to automatically reconnect?

  • one difference is the fact that the Venu is not present in the listing of BT devices on Android, my HR+ was.

so here are all details about my Venu :

    SW : 5.46

    GPS version : 4.80

    ANT/BLE/BT : 6.11

    Wifi version : 2.60

    TSC version : 2.10

    Sensor version : 7.00

    WHR version : 0.09.01

    Connect IQ : 3.2.4

    BMX : 0.9.1

    2nd BMX : 0.8.0

    Garmin Connect app : 4.38.1

    Phone :

    Android device : Samsung A5 (SM-A520F)

Android ver. release : 8.0.0 SDK 26 (info from Garmin Connect App)

  • This has been an ongoing issue for me with both of my Garmin devices. I previously had a vivoactive HR which would have these same connectivity issues with my iPhone on a pretty regular basis (once every few weeks) and would resolve with some combination of the following: disconnect / reconnect Bluetooth; exit and re-open Garmin connect app; turn both phone and watch on and off; and if none of the previous attempts worked I would uninstall the Garmin connect app, unpair and “Forget” device from my phone, and essentially restart and reinstall everything from square 1.

My recently purchased Venu is unfortunately having these connectivity issues as well. Like the original post, it sometimes occurs when the phone and watch become separated in space and lose the Bluetooth connection; they then sometimes do not appropriately reconnect when brought close together again.

I have also noticed that pretty much every time I unplug my Venu after charging it does not reconnect to my phone (and yes, the Garmin Connect app is running in the background on my phone and I keep the software up to date). In this situation, I have to exit the Connect app and reopen it as well as turn off then on the Bluetooth connection on the watch itself.

Basically, it’s just frustrating that these connectivity issues are a recurring theme on my Garmin devices over the last 5 years and have persisted even with my recent upgrade to the Venu. Done venting now.

  • I finally solved this on my Android phone.

Bluetooth connected automatically without problems when bluetooth was turned off-on or phone / watch was booted.

    BUT

When bluetooth was disconnected due to distance, the pairing-pin would always pop and had to be manually typed to get it to connect.

No matter if bluetooth connection was made in Connect, or in Android system settings I always got the identical bluetooth input box asking for pairing pin.

    What worked for me:

    1. Remove watch from connect

    2. Go to Androids Apps-settings - Connect -  Change permision: "Change system settings" - to Allowed.

    3. Put the watch to phone pairing mode - add the watch to connect normally

    4. Now my Connect app asked for pairing pin (Garming Connect App's own pairing pin input box, not the android systems)

    5. Go through the normal set-up and test

It's also good to remove Connect from battery optimization so it stays on in the backround.

  • Well Done,

Maybe Others can follow your process and also solve their issues.

The Problem is Always on the Phone as the Watch is Just the "Slave".

  • Thank you for this. I have followed your steps and then carried out a quick test: I walked out of range and no pair pin! The watch was disconnected but didnt have a tantrum about it, then reconnected when I was back in range. Early days but I think you've got the solution, well done!

  • This Bluetooth problem is bigger than the phone.  I have music down loaded to my Garmin Venu. After about 3-4 minutes the headphones disconnect. Also at this time my Bluetooth sensors from my bike drop out.  Ride 10 miles and only 3-4 miles register due to the drop out. I have tried power off reset, factory reset. Nothing seams to fix this problem. This is a watch issue not a phone. Any suggestions?  I have looked for the “device connection aid” on the Garmin Connect app but am unable to locate that feature.

  • @4781803 You R Talking about a Different Problem.

  • Hi, back to the watch not reconnecting gracefully after I walk out of range. The message on the phone says "Connected not bonded" but the solution is still select "Pair Phone" on the watch. This usually works second time and they sync.

  • Anyone else find this has now become worse? I've had disconnects when I'm 5m or so from my phone.

  • Yes your soloution helped me. No disconnections so far (2 days).
