Auto Save - stopped activity - not me

Got a new Venu SQ yesterday after my vivosport's battery failed after 3.5 years.  Did my first activity this morning - walk I've done many times while wearing my vivosport.  Noticed while in the middle of my walk AUTO SAVE appeared on the screen.  I ignored it and kept going.  A bit later I noticed the watch wasn't recording the walk.  I did not stop the activity.  I started another walk activity then ended it when I got home, so the end result was I took TWO walks (but really only one).  One ended with AUTO SAVE, the other ended by me.

Searched for AUTO SAVE in the user's manual, not there.  Poked around a bit looking for an AUTO SAVE setting on the SQ; couldn't find one.  Did I miss something?  My vivosport never behaved this way.  It started an activity when I told it to, then stopped when I told it to stop.

I also did a search and found a bunch of comments/complaints on AUTO SAVE but no solution as to why or what "decides"' to AUTO SAVE or if it can be disabled.

All software/firmware is up to date as of today.  2.90 FW, etc.

  • For the second time, everything is ok. I recommend everyone to try to erase all activities from memory and do a hard reset.

  • For the last 27 days I have done running, walking & Cardio activities with no problems. Today I started a walking activity and it ended and went to the save screen after I had done 0.22 of a mile. I saved it and started another walking activity to complete my 4 mile walk. When I synced it with Garmin Connect about 6 hours of heart rate data is missing up to when I started my walking activity, this kicked the heart rate sensor into life and it started recording my heart rate again until it ended the activity on it's own. This happened before as I stated in my previous posts. The heart rate sensor appears to stop working and when you start an activity it starts up again but then the SQ ends the activity on it's own without any user intervention. I have updated to SW 3.00 two weeks ago and done a hard reset once a week.

  • After someone mentioned a lack of HR data I looked at my HR data from yesterday.  My HR stopped recording at 8:54AM and then re-started at 10:06AM after I was prompted to save or discard my elliptical activity.  After that, my HR data started recording……

  • Thank you for the reply .  Are you keeping the screen locked during the activity?

  • My Venu Sq had been behaving since the 3.00 update, but today it stopped recording 0.36 miles into my ride.  It didn't buzz my wrist until over 1.5 miles into my ride to let me know that I was "done", though, which I thought was interesting.  I did NOT have Auto Lock enabled since it had been behaving, but I have enabled it now.  Luckily I've learned not to trust my Garmin watch, and I am using my phone to track my rides, because I would have been devastated if I'd lost today's ride, since it was my very first time up and over Mt. Eden.

  • After setting Auto Lock, my watch decided my evening walk was "done" just 2 houses down the street.  I was able to restart my walk, and when I got home, I did have to go through the extra button presses and holds to unlock my screen and save my walk, so it really is set.  Please let me know what additional information you would like.

  • Having the same issue with mine. Had no issues with the basic forerunner 30 but nothing but issues. Stops my activities, nothing on my arm interfering. Climbed 3 mountains today on an 8mile route and it says I've a step count of 11,500.

    It's so frustrating and annoying

  • just want to make sure you have me on the list of people this is happening to so I’m in the loop.

  • I did a full power-off after my issues 2 days ago, and my Venu Sq was fine yesterday for my ride.  Today, it stopped recording 3.5 miles into my 13-mile ride.  It notified me my ride was "done" about a mile after it stopped recording, and I was able to start a new activity to continue recording.  Auto Lock is enabled.

  • This is also happening to me. Have cleared the Upload history and deleted all the old .fit files via Windows Explorer. Running version 3.00.

Auto screen lock is on during activities, but I'll look at my watch and its just "Auto saving" - now not trusting my watch for activities because of it.

Now only using "Indoor Cycle" to broadcast the HR (and it still happens). Wish there was a quicker way of starting "HR broadcast" without having to go through all the settings every time or having to use "indoor cycle".
