Right Sensor Missing

Hello!

Does anyone know what can generate this message "right sensor missing"?

Occurred with my Vector3 during use. Just the 8th training with my Vector3.

My workout ran out of energy information on my right leg for several minutes (45').

quick update: Did try the tapping and removal of the V3 from the GC app. I am still getting a right pedal missing error and it now will not even calibrate. It returns error 1024 ( and calibration failure). This calibration error also happens if i swap the battery covers from left to right.

I think someone from garmin customer services should contact me to arrange for a working set for me. I am racing national duathlon championships next Saturday and i am left without a power meter.

Unless instructed by someone at Garmin to try taping the batteries I would strongly discourage people from just trying it.

It is only applicable to one type of problem. The process of inserting and removing batteries that are taped can damage an otherwise undamaged battery door. Hence this should only be done once the problem has had some initial investigation.

Ulfius I would recommend calling Garmin Customer services to get this resolved due to the tight time frame.

    Hi again,

Taping is something you proposed at post #9. you even posted a pic. I am a little bit confused Vector-Info.

With regatrds to Garmin customer services i have send an email on the 29/1 and still have no reply.

I have a confirmation of submission from : Garmin <[email protected]> if you require it.

Could you get someone to help out plz?

To the point now. I got the right pedal to work after unlinking it (in an effort to continue training even with left side only) and re-linking it.
On close inspection both my battery doors have one of their black stickers ( i guess the insulators) missing. i now have the batteries inserted without taping but i need someone to advice me on what to do.
Shall i return the pedals for replacement or do i need just to be shipped out a new set of doors?

    Thanks,

Have you checked if it is an excessive drainage of the battery issue? I'm facing that ... If i keep the battery inside the right pedals for like 4-5 days then they are just totally over. Therefore I have to remove the battery at the end of each ride to keep their life "acceptable" (40-50hours)

I have no means of checking this but you could be right. The factory set of batteries lasted 53 hours ( i log training times). The second one 15 ( i changed all four), the third 5 days. I guess this could be down to short circuiting caused by flimsy battery covers.
The main issue is though that the right pedal dies into a ride with even brand new batteries (i get left power only and half the watts). Really had enough with them.

I have now physically returned them to Garmin central here in Athens and awaiting resolution.

I still had no reply from Garmin, very very disappointed by the customer service.

Edit: In fairness i need to point out that today i got an email from garmin customer service which i just read.

    Hello,

I have received my Vector 3 set today and took them out for a ride. In order to have a reference for future workouts I went for a 5 minutes test at maximum intensity. The pedals worked fine on the hour before the test and during the test itself. After a few minutes of easy spin I started a new set when I got the error message: "right sensor missing". I tried to turn off my edge 520 and restart it but the issue remained.

Back at home I had a closer look at the pedals, the right one in particular. I noticed two things:

    1) There is a small gap between the metal and plastic part of the body as I will try to illustrate with a photo. The left pedal does not have the same gap.
    2) The right pedal is especially hard to turn by hand, considerably more than the left one. It actually requires me to grab the spindle with a cloth to ensure I have enough grip. On the other hand the left pedal turns freely enough that it will regain a vertical position within a few seconds if I unclip.

The battery is not an issue as I still get the LED to turn on when I move that particular pedal.

Hopefully someone can suggest the best course of action for me.

    Thank you.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1306374.jpg

HugoB - Please contact Garmin Customer Support. They will need to replace the right pedal body for you.It looks like the right pedal body was not assembled correctly and did not have enough loctite applied.

Without the specialized tool you will not be able to remove the pedal body from the cartridge to apply some loctite without causing some damage. You might have success with the Park Tool pin spanner, but as the system is new I would recommend just getting the pedal body replaced.

As the pedal body undoes it will push the PCB away from the connector pins and cause the spindle to lose electrical power.

After several months of seemingly trouble free operation (apart from occasional Right sensor missing whilst not pedalling - and having to grease the Left pedal bearings) during a 1hr ride today I had multiple right pedal drop outs. The right sensor missing message first came about 15min into the ride and then many times after that. My ride data clearly shows the multiple occasions on which L/R balance was 100% left. It is weeks since I changed the batteries, so hard to believe battery door issues are the problem. Connect mobile shows battery status as good (full green bars). Any suggestions as to why this should suddenly start happening?

Incidentally following that ride I updated the vector firmware to new v. 3.0 - and at the moment am having a number of additional problems as a result, but thats for a different thread.

    Just an update.
Garmin has now replaced my pedals with a new set as the right pedal was not working properly and was producing the "right Sensor Missing Error"
I will give the new set a go and let you all know.
Customer support was up to standard i have to admin albeit i have lost faith in vectors and now have put a Rotor crankset on my racing bike.
I hope this new set will regain my confidence.
