Yeah, this is a f*%#ing annoying “feature” of the 820 that Garmin simply ignore and refuse to sort out.
I HATE the fact that it does this, and simply won’t stay off when I turn it off, regardless…
+1. It worked great on the previous generation unit (800/810). I mean only the power off/on on connecting disconnecting the power cable..
Couldn't agree more, this drives me crazy too!!!
michaelfaas, share your solution with Garmin, www.garmin.com forms ideas
I also have Bontrager's Flare RT lights and they turned on while starting a treadmill run with the Forerunner 935 ;)
Never figured out how to get them to work properly.
Bold step, sell the Bontrager lights and acquire some from Garmin ?

It’s a stupid thing to have, and I don’t understand why Garmin won’t do a software update to allow users to disable this feature if they want to.
Garmin - WHY won’t you fix this????

I asked the same darn question a year ago and nothing has changed. This is incredibly annoying. I had a 520 that was intelligent enough to auto power down, once unplugged from the charger, after 15 seconds. We should at least have an option to configure the device the way we want it to behave. If I plug it into power to charge it, why does Garmin think I want to boot it up and start a ride? Just doesn't make sense.
