Edge 1030 will not pair with iPhone 11 series, case was escalated

Spent hours today on the phone with garmin tech support. The guys are good, they try and are patient.

We tried everything. The usual things like:

remove 1030 from iPhone bluetooth list

disable connected features, soft reset, re-enable

Gets to the point of seeing 1030 as a device, passkey presented, then at the next screen the connection fails. Something went wrong, retry. Over and over.

Did this process more times than I can remember. Hit retry 8 times each attempt. No dice.

Asked me to delete and reinstall garmin connect, sign in. No help.

Turned off wifi on the phone, same thing.

Went outside away from any other interference. No help.

Finally, was asked to send a diagnostic report, and the team would find out if Garmin Connect has an issue with the new iPhone 11 Pro

Anyone have any other tips

    Well it works for me. Just uploaded a test activity using 4G and GC via BT-> Edge 1030.

  • Same issue here. Was waiting to see if iOS 13.1 (coming tomorrow I believe) will make a difference before calling Garmin.

  • I’m on the latest 13.1 beta so don’t count on it helping

    I had a similar problem with an iPhone XR, so I'm not sure it's a problem exclusive to the iPhone 11. Here's how I fixed it:

    1. Removed all references to the Edge from BlueTooth settings on my phone;
    2. Removed references to my iPhone on the Edge;
    3. Removed the Edge from the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone;
    4. Turned Bluetooth off and then on again on the Edge;
    5. Started all over with pairing a phone to the Edge via the 1030 manual.

    That took a while, but it did work (I was out on a ride when I did it). It's only been a few days since, so I don't know if this is a permanent fix (doubt it), but I'll find out if it works when my iPhone 11 Pro shows up in a few weeks.

  • Edge firmware version 8.0 and iOS 13.1.1 worked for me.

  • I too have this on the iPhone X after installing the Garmin Edge 1030 software update to version 8.00. I can see the device, I get the same passcode on both devices then set up starts and then it fails, again and again and again. I have gone old school and just plugged it in to Garmin Express on my Mac to upload rides until Garmin fix it.

  • Upgraded to iOS 13.1.1, still wouldn’t pair. Eventually resorted to full reset of the 1030 and now pairs as expected. My 1030 had also stopped uploading rides via Wi-fi.

  • Same exact problem here.  iPhone XR and IOS 13.1.  Cannot pair phone to Edge 1030 via bluetooth.  Did everything that everyone suggested here and still will not pair.  Does Garmin not even update this software?

  • Mine finally paired after upgrading to iOS 13.1.1 and restarting both the iPhone and Garmin.

    The wifi had stopped working too - tried many times over a couple of days and that started working too so I’m not sure if the iOS upgrade made any difference...

  • I believe the WiFi is a connection from the 1030 to whatever internet router you connect too.  Doesn’t need a phone.
