Edge 1030 will not pair with iPhone 11 series, case was escalated

Spent hours today on the phone with garmin tech support. The guys are good, they try and are patient.

We tried everything. The usual things like:

remove 1030 from iPhone bluetooth list

disable connected features, soft reset, re-enable

Gets to the point of seeing 1030 as a device, passkey presented, then at the next screen the connection fails. Something went wrong, retry. Over and over.

Did this process more times than I can remember. Hit retry 8 times each attempt. No dice.

Asked me to delete and reinstall garmin connect, sign in. No help.

Turned off wifi on the phone, same thing.

Went outside away from any other interference. No help.

Finally, was asked to send a diagnostic report, and the team would find out if Garmin Connect has an issue with the new iPhone 11 Pro

Anyone have any other tips

  • I know why. It's because Garmin software quality is complete and utter garbage and it has been for years. It's flakey and fragile, and full of bugs and regressions.

So it's actually not a problem with iPhone 11 so much as it's a problem with iOS 13.  I have an iPhone X and Garmin Connect stopped working with my 1030 after I upgraded it to iOS 13. I deleted by BT connections and tried to re-pair the 1030 and my phone. No dice. I have the same issues as you.

It's no surprise at all it breaks with an iOS upgrade. It's not as if Apple has been seeding it to developers for months so they can be ready with their products. Oh, wait, they did!

  • I’m with you brother. But in this case I had an iPhone 7+ running the same iOS version exactly.

  • With iOS 13 you need to grant BT access to the app.

  • I already did that. It makes no difference. The Garmin Connect BT connection has always been flakey and unreliable. The difference now is instead of working like crap, it doesn't work at all.

  • I finally got mine to pair after many tries. I wish I could say what I did to make it work, but there isn't anything that I hadn't tried and failed already.

I did go into BT under the Settings app and "Forget" all the existing Edge 1030 BT connections. I also went into the Connect settings under the Settings app and turned Bluetooth Sharing off and then back on again. Note that I had tried that before and failed, but now it has finally worked. I'll find out tomorrow if it really works when I go for a ride. At that time I also hope to find that TBT works after it's been broken through all the 7.x versions.

  • It's not the same issue or software set up, but I've been having issues with my Pixel 3 being unable to connect to the 1030 after every phone restart. I think I've finally solved the problem this morning by deleting the cache etc from the Garmin Connect app before uninstalling and reinstalling it. You may have already done that, but if not it's worth a try as it seems to be the way to break the "connection" with previous issues.

Some problem. iPhone 11 Pro and Edge1030. Tried every tip here in every possible way. No BT pairing. .

  • I don’t think it’s iphone 11 related. I’ve had it over the last few weeks on a 6s. Finally got it working by removing all the entries and doing a reset on the 1030 by holding power button down for a while. Got iPhone 11 yesterday and can’t connect again. Same symptoms as before but not tried garmin reset yet as it seems to want to send an emergency alert when I hold power button down as firmware was updated during the week.

  • Tales of woe have existed on this forever. I also don't think it's 11-related, but that's just what garmin said to me about it. When they said Maybe it's something with the 11, it isn't tested on the 11, I said guys are we really going down this road

  • Oh, brother. Garmin wants to blame Apple? I doubt it's an Apple issue. Not that Apple's software is entirely bug-free, but it is generally very stable and well tested. It's Garmin software that's unstable and badly tested. They apparently don't play well with iOS 13, despite the fact it's been available to developers for a while.
