Edge 1030 will not pair with iPhone 11 series, case was escalated

Spent hours today on the phone with garmin tech support. The guys are good, they try and are patient.

We tried everything. The usual things like:

remove 1030 from iPhone bluetooth list

disable connected features, soft reset, re-enable

Gets to the point of seeing 1030 as a device, passkey presented, then at the next screen the connection fails. Something went wrong, retry. Over and over.

Did this process more times than I can remember. Hit retry 8 times each attempt. No dice.

Asked me to delete and reinstall garmin connect, sign in. No help.

Turned off wifi on the phone, same thing.

Went outside away from any other interference. No help.

Finally, was asked to send a diagnostic report, and the team would find out if Garmin Connect has an issue with the new iPhone 11 Pro

Anyone have any other tips

  • My fr935 and edge 1030 both paired with my iPhone 11pro (ios13).  I upgraded from iPhone 8 (ios13).

garmin connect app automatic asked to repair the fr935.  Had to remove and re add edge 1030 (Firmware 8.00).  But all good!!

  • I am totally unable to pair an Edge 1030 (firmware version 8.00) and an iPhone 11 Pro (iOS 13.0).

I switched on bluetooth access of the Garmin connect app. The app can see the Edge and the Edge appears in the list of bluetooth devices on the iPhone, but the last step (after entering the bluetooth code) of the process fails. I have repeated the process many times including re-installing the app and forgetting the telephone on the Edge with no success.

I am giving up for now and hope this gets rectified by Garmin.

Finally got the Edge 1030 and iPhone 11 Pro Max to pair! Not sure why it worked this time after dozens of attempts incorporating ALL the tips previously mentioned here in this thread.

The only changes I made during the successful pairing are: 1) I moved to a different room a bit closer to router; 2) I had the 1030 plugged into a charger; 3) when the pairing screen came up on both devices I accepted it FIRST  on the 1030 and then the iPhone 11. Not which (if any) of those changes made a difference but it is now totally paired. Went on a 70+ mile bike ride afterwards and it all works normally. Good luck everyone.

Edit: Also forgot to mention I renamed the “Edge 1030” to “E 1030” and renamed the iPhone 11. Again, not sure if this mattered but it was part of the successful pairing.

  • Same EXACT problem.

  • Unfortunately, this did not work for me (maybe because I have an iPhone 11 Pro, but not the Max).

finally got mine to pair. Was able to successfully pair with the Edge unit at 100% full charge and plugged in power supply. i tried it earlier at 50% charge and will not complete. the iphone was also plugged in. make sure to forget all BT devices.

  • I did some more testing. Bluetooth connection is not an issue with Firmware 7.50, but impossible with version 8.00.

I tested this with two Edge 1030 devices, both of them showed the same behaviour.

    SOLVED for me using iPhone11.

Used my iphone as a hotspot and connected my Edge1030 via WIFI. Did a new bluetooth pairing atempt and this everything worked as it should. To be honest I didn't even re-install GC, reset of Edge 1030 etc.

  • I thought I had mine connected too, and posted what did the trick, but today, the 1030 is no longer showing up as a device in GC.
