18.22 - Battery stuck at 100%

I updated my watch yesterday to the latest firmware. My battery at the time was a bit low so I figured I would charge it while updating. Left it to 100%

Did a short 10 minute or so walk yesterday with GPS, went to sleep, then another 30 minute or so walk this morning, again with GPS. After that usage I would expect the battery to have dropped at least 5-10%, but it has been showing 100% since yesterday, both on my watch face, and when I scroll through the glances.

I have tried restarting the watch multiple times, putting it back on the charger to see if it might "reset" the percentage or something. I am now downloading some music files over wifi (which normally knocks the battery down a few percent). Still seems stuck at 100%.

I saw a few other random posts from other users on the forum with the same issue, but all on different watches with various different firmware versions.

Does anyone have any insight? Is this a new bug? Could it be related to a watch face I might have downloaded? Is there anything to be done short of resetting the watch, which I very much would prefer not to do.

Edit: Well I tried yet another reboot, and now its showing 99%. So I guess at least thats better. It still seems off since I only put it back on the charger for a few minutes earlier, and based on the things I had done since yesterday, I expected the battery to have dropped at least 5-10%. I guess I will watch it and see what happens, but will leave this up in case anyone else is having this issue.

  • How have you reset the watch? I would try to push and hold light button until it's rebooting.

  • I did a power off via the quick settings. Multiple times. And also did a hard power off by holding the power button down until it turned off.

  • if i recharge my watch, it is on 100% for a day apprx, and then it starts to drop but always the decreasing rate is much smaller at the high battery % than at the lower %

  • Thats never been my experience before, especially not after recording an activity with gps, even a relatively short activity. I definitely would have seen the battery percent drop.

At least though for now, it does seem to be updating again, though it still seems higher than I would have expected. So unless they did something that is giving me much better battery life before, still seems like there was some issue there.

  • This happened to me when I bought the watch. I think there could be some adaptive algorithm where the watch learns after a while about the state of the battery (probably will be useful when the battery will be degraded after 2 years)

  • My problem is that the battery runs out quickly, in just one day and without registering any activity it has consumed 25% and maintaining the same conditions as before the 18.22 update

  • I also have a question: I have my new forerunner since a couple of days and each time the battery is at 100%, latest 1h later I have only 98% without doing anything.

    My settings:

    - AOD off

    - No Spox

    - No connection to the phone

    - Battery widget is saying this morning -> 0,246 % battery per hour without doing anything -> means 16,6 Tage

    - Garmin is saying -> 98% and 29 days remaining -> how can this be?

    Thanks in advance

  • Ignore all the numbers (battery %, days), all are "fake" in the first days, even weeks. For some reason Garmin implemented some strange adaptive algorithm to calculate the percentage. This causes it to display nonsense in the first weeks.

  • But whats about the separate "battery widget with automatic charge detection"? I have this one and it displays 0,246% battery drain per hour.

  • It gets it's data from Garmin. The problem is how the hardware/firmware translate voltage to percentage
