Forerunner 965 / Intervals instead Laps

I bought the Forerunner 965.

On Garmin Connect, when dispaying an activity produced by the 965, I get "Intervals" sheet instead of "Laps" sheet !
I don'nt use workout.
I just run the watch by pressing "Start", then "lap button" several times then "End" button

Can I change that ?
To obtain "Laps" ?

PS : it's a problem for me because I use "Laps" sheet to copy data to EXCEL, to analyse the session !!!

  • I HATE THIS TOO!!!!  I JUST WANT THE LAPS THAT I HIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Do you know if they have corrected this problem with any option to deactivate it?
  • hi, any update on this issue? I am facing the same problem, many thanks. M

  • It worked thanks! I don't know why Garmin doesn't have the ability to turn this off!

  • WillNorthYork, what worked?  Mine had gone back to just giving me laps, BUT now it is again trying to guess at categorizing my efforts.sooo frustrating (both because I just want laps, and because it always guesses wrong even if I didnt.

  • I was able to remove the intervals categorization by going into edit changing one thing as mentioned above, and then changing it back and then I only saw laps. It's still a pain as there should be a setting to turn it on and off.

  • WillNorthYork, what worked?

I think the person you're replying to is talking about the workaround that I previously posted for a problem with the interval editor.

The problem is that when Garmin auto-categorizes your intervals, if you try to edit the intervals after the fact, they all show up as "Run" (unlike the actual intervals tab in the activity details), which is a tad inconvenient if you actually want all your laps to be "Run" intervals (which is the closest thing to having no intervals at all).

The workaround is to change any lap to anything other than "Run", then change it back to "Run". This would reset the auto-categorization (although you'd be left with one huge interval of all your laps - at least that's what I saw in the past).

I just checked a couple of recent activities that were auto-categorized: one steady state run with strides (I pressed LAP after every stride and rest period), and one interval workout (where I pressed LAP after every work and rest period). In both the website and the app, when I edit the intervals, they all show up as "Run".

So the interval editing problem still exists and the workaround still applies.

Unfortunately, if you're looking for a way to prevent Garmin from auto-categorizing your intervals, I don't think one exists. If you press LAP between alternating periods of fast and slow running, Garmin is probably gonna try to categorize your intervals.

I guess we could all send a request to the Garmin Ideas page for them to add an option to disable this feature, but idk if anyone actually reads those ideas.
