Forerunner 965 / Intervals instead Laps

I bought the Forerunner 965.

On Garmin Connect, when dispaying an activity produced by the 965, I get "Intervals" sheet instead of "Laps" sheet !
I don'nt use workout.
I just run the watch by pressing "Start", then "lap button" several times then "End" button

Can I change that ?
To obtain "Laps" ?

PS : it's a problem for me because I use "Laps" sheet to copy data to EXCEL, to analyse the session !!!

  • Perhaps a bug ?
    .
Searching a parameter, I found this from User Manual page 10
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    Auto Rest and Manual Rest
NOTE: Swim data is not recorded during a rest. To view other data screens, you can press UP or DOWN.
The auto rest feature is available only for pool swimming. Your watch automatically detects when you are resting, and the rest screen appears. If you rest for more than 15 seconds, the watch automatically creates a rest interval. When you resume swimming, the watch automatically starts a new swim interval. You can turn on the auto rest feature in the activity options (Adding or Removing a Favorite Activity, page 20).
TIP: For best results using the auto rest feature, minimize your arm motions while resting.
During a pool or open water swim activity, you can manually mark a rest interval by pressing .

    I am not swimming.
I am running and starting a "Run Activity".

  • Let me check on my watch and see: I don't use it the same as you , so in order to test and see what may help you I would like to understand what you are trying to achieve then I can try and replicate.

    1. What Activity are you using ? Run?

    2. Do you have Auto Lap turned off?

    3. What parameters do you use to Press Lap?

    4. Regarding the Extract below, I couldn't find that but that applies to Swimming so it shouldn't apply to this.

  • Thank You.

It really seems to be a BUG !

I changed the "Auto Rest" parameter on "Swimming Pool" application and the BUG has gone !
This parameter (Auto Rest) does not exist in "Running" applications, only swimming.

    Other information.
I also saw that if I don't walk or rest during an activity, I obtain "Laps".
That makes me on the road of a parameter, somewhere in the watch software !

  • Bad news.

Yesterday, after changing "Auto Rest" paraméter to OFF,  i did just a little test on 400 meters, running, walking, resting, ....
    I got "LAPS".
    Nice !!!

But this morning, I run a training session of 10 km, alternating running, walking, resting.
    I GOT "INTERVALS".

    Catastrophic !

    Don't worry !
    I will use "Export CSV".
Il will be longer, a little bit !

But after using Export CSV, we see that "Export CSV is the same that the sheet that display either Laps either intervals on Garmin Connect.
    Castastrophic, Mr Garmin.
    Lucky, i have a Fenix 5 !

"Intervals" date if the sheet in "Intervals".
'Laps" data if the sheet is "LAPS".

  • Mr GARMINn,
We ask you, about the 965, in terms of laps and intervals, to return to the same operation as before :
INTERVALS only if you are in an "Intervals" workout !
    Possible ?

    THANKS, Mr GARMIN !

  • Today, endurance session, alternating running and walking.

    I got "LAPS".

Mr GARMIN, STOP that ridiculous behavior, one times "LAPS", on times "INTERVALS" !
Tired of these dictatorial measures !!!
Why not create a parameter to ask what the user want to get ?

  • As discussed in the other thread, Garmin is auto-categorizing your intervals, and there's no way to avoid this (except by not pressing Lap, I think).

    Couple of notes here:

    - I believe this is messing up your "Export Splits To CSV" because multiple laps grouped under a single interval (e.g. Warm Up) are collapsed by default, which affects the export (collapsed laps aren't exported.) Even if you expand all the intervals, you still have the annoyance that any interval which has 2 or more laps will have an extra interval header with the aggregate interval stats.

    - As mentioned above, Export Splits to CSV will include/omit laps based on whether their "parent" interval is collapsed or expanded

    - if you select "Edit Intervals", you will find that all intervals are set to Run even if the auto-categorized intervals are different

    - But if you select Edit Intervals and make any change, then edit them again so they're all set to Run, the change will stick

Having said all of that, I have a workaround for you. When Garmin auto-categorizes your intervals:

    - Open the activity in Garmin Connect

    1) Select Gear > Edit > Edit Intervals and make any change (doesn't matter what)

    2) Edit Intervals again and change all the intervals to "Run"

    3) Go back to the activity and select the intervals tab. You will now have 1 "Run" interval which includes *all* of your laps. Expand this interval

    4) Select Export Splits to CSV. You'll now have a CSV file with all your laps, and the one interval header at the top (which can easily be deleted.)

    Example:

I have an activity where I ran 6k and did some strides at the end. I pressed lap after each stride, which triggered the garmin auto-interval categorization.

Here's how I fixed the splits CSV so it just has laps (and one interval).

    1) Edit Intervals and make a random change:

    2) Edit Intervals again so all the intervals are "Run"

    (Save intervals)

    3) Go back to activity and select the intervals tab. Now there's just one interval, which I expand:

    4) Select Export Splits to CSV

I get something which is very close to the "normal" laps export: all the laps, plus the single interval header at the top which I can easily delete:

It's a pain but I don't know of any other solution.

Note that once you do this, I don't know of any way to get the original auto-categorization back (unless you delete the activity in Connect and manually import from device, I think.)
