heart rate values totally wrong after update 18.22

did a run today with my forerunner 955 (update version 18.22 from today):

first km slow: pace 6:04 min/km, av. heart rate 151

then 5 km fast with pace 4:51 min/km; av. heart rate 133 ?? (my common hear rate at that pace should be 180-190)
a sudden drop of the heart rate appeared approximately at the change of pace

  • I experience also very bad OHR behaviour, which were not present in the past; allthough I didn't notice it.
Last weekend I cycled again for the first time this season.

In red I marked all area's which had a wrong HR.

Optical measurement, watch was tight enough arond the wrist and in the right position.

    1. May I have permission to reach you via email?
      1. Yes
    2. May we have permission to view your Connect account?
      1. Yes
  • In dark red the heart rate from polar h10 and in red from ohr. We're not quite there. Same comparison done in June 2022 and it was almost perfect.

  • Hi Garmin-Sierra,

I do have issues with OHR on some days, where I have very high Max HR on 7 days chart in GCWeb and GCM despite that on daily chart for those days there is nothing like that. See below.

You can reach me via email and you have my permission to view my Connect account if you like.

Usually I wear my chest strap HRM-Pro. On Feb 9th I have Rest day hence only OHR could measure my HR. On Mar 5th I have my strap on, but in activity details I cannot see it connected. On Jan 19th I have Treadmill run with Strap.

Here are at least two questions:

    1. Is it what we see in GC really what was measured?

    2. Can we have permanent indicator on the Activity Data screen if currently we are reading OHR or Broadcasted data from Strap? I could imagine two different Heart icons. Initial message that External HR was connected do not confirm if we still have data from it after few minutes of activity.

    3. Is there a way to see raw data from the Watch to find at what exact moment such high spikes has happend? Maybe we can correlate with actual situation? Like I take off watch before take shower etc?

  • Please see I Am Seeing Two Different High Heart Rate Values in Garmin Connect.

"An HRM-ProTm or HRM-ProTm Plus heart rate monitor that has been paired to your Garmin Connect app can also measure your daily high heart rate. A high heart rate value recorded by a heart rate strap may not be reflected on the Daily Summary heart rate graph if a watch with an optical heart rate sensor had different readings during the period the high value was captured."

This may help clear up some questions, but I am not sure why it should be showing such a high value like 219 bpm's (Jan. 18th). Perhaps there was an issue with something recorded on one of your sensors that is not shown (like you were asking about), but I am not sure. We can discuss it more in email when we are able to look into it further, but I would recommend anyone else seeing this creates a new thread since this thread's topic is about OHR quality during activities.

  • My thinking was going in the direction that maybe at the moment I have to take off watch from my wrist some erratic reading was detected.

During those 3 days I have strap broadcasting HR only during activity on Jan 18th. On Mar 5th I have it on but not connected. I have checked battery today and it was completely flat.

  • I had over the years bought several packets of CR2032 coin cells, only to find that many of them had expired before I got to use them. This caught me out when the battery in car's key fob died and none of the potential replacements seemed to be any better.

A good test of a lithium coin cell is a blue LED. Blue LEDs need 3V to work. That matches the voltage of the battery. Red LEDs only need 2V and are not suitable. A good battery will light up the LED brightly -- it may be uncomfortable to look at the light. A bad one will light the LED dimly or not at all. (The long wire on the LED goes to the + on the battery.)

  • Good Morning, I also seem to be experiencing Optical sensor issues, - I'd like to display the log file image I've got comparing this with Strava / Heart Rate strap. How do I do this, I can only seem to share an image if its on web somewhere. Where do you guys host these? Thanks

  • DaveCB, I am not sure what are you talking about. You should be able to upload images directly from your PC using this option:

You can also copy & paste. I am on Win OS, and can use Win+Shift+S to start screen capture app, where I can draw which area to copy to clipboard.

This is exactly what I have done to the image above. Give it a try.

  • The reason is that we're trying to solve the OHR issue, clearly, obviously.

So we love the contribution but, that's not the answer we really need.
