heart rate values totally wrong after update 18.22

did a run today with my forerunner 955 (update version 18.22 from today):

first km slow: pace 6:04 min/km, av. heart rate 151

then 5 km fast with pace 4:51 min/km; av. heart rate 133 ?? (my common hear rate at that pace should be 180-190)
a sudden drop of the heart rate appeared approximately at the change of pace

  • f you're saying do a warm up, then if I'm in the middle of my run,  and the heartrate  on the watch drops randomly or locks on to some random figure,  then  I should stop my current workout, save it and start a new one.

would fix the heart rate issue, and it should then resume to a normal (expected level) and pick up the correct rate. - aa the first run would be seen as the warm up?

Although think the warm up thing would make sense, if it was an issue from the start of the activity, but more often than not, its at somepoint during the actvity, when the OHR, has been acceptably accurate, that it then either climbs and locks high, or drops off completely, no change of tightness on the wrist, and no issues with not be warmed up.

Should just stopping, and then restarting the activity have the same effect?

  • At the end it is all a matter of how much is worth a watch that gives not accurate HR rate and consequently false the results datas of training effect, Vo2 max etc.

If we have to use a chest band, a foot pod and the watch is just a slave than question to high priced watches…

  • I am not saying other brands are better - this watch was working fine until 18.22 fw Garmin released and as you can see from the other posters it went all downhill adding Sierra's response fuel to the fire.

Furthermore, whats the point advertising OHR if everybody needs a chest strap? It is my right as well as everyone else here as a consumer shelling out 500euro plus for a watch and expect it to work as it was advertised.

  • There were issues on HR even before 18.22…you can search on the forum for previous discussions. HR data’s on wrist was always a topic and same issue with other watch brand.

The problem in fact is why to spend such high prices 600+ euros/USD if than you need a chest band?? Better a much cheaper watch with chest band as statistics on all major run apps will give same info than Garmin??..I think that is the point here

  • Mine is going back today -  I hope they can fix it for the sake of this community.

  • If they could fix Autodetect LTHR after two years of dysfunction, they will fix OHR too...

  • Do you already have any conclusions ? Are you saying that everything is ok ?

I'm showing an example of a workout I did today but stopped it due to completely meaningless indications.

    In a nutshell:
Yes I had the watch on correctly
    This is how I had a warm-up

    Chart:
The heart rate in the initial phase suspended as if artificially raised from a few beats. Despite the fact that I was running up a slight hill until I stopped. The heart rate usually on the strips at this point oscillates between 150-160. After the break it's complete nonsense. Where it was beeping is where I was marching xD complete stupidity.

  •  Are you working on solving the problem that is reported in this topic and many others?

  • I had a Polar H10 strap that started giving random periods of sudden low or high HR that didn't relate to activity level. I checked and its voltage signal collection capability seemed to have dropped below noise level. A fresh strap (same E-brick) solved the problem; no further spurious high HR readings. It appears chest strap electrode surfaces have a lifespan. Meanwhile OHR has always been sluggish to change and reluctant to rise above a certain value, but "acceptable".

But I don't dispute people's findings of diminished performance with recent firmware updates. Will receive a new 255 next week (currently FR745 which is fine on its apparently top firmware 13.00 but for restricted battery life). If the 255 comes with a version 17.- firmware will keep it at that until I hear it's ok to go to new firmware.

  • All of the problems I've had with the Polar H10+ so far have always been solved by either replacing the battery or replacing the strap itself. With my use, the strap lasts about 1.5 years.
