New 965 - Is it a joke ?

Interesting that you say LTH bug would never be found other than via this forum. Do we know that Garmin have been not been aware, and are not working on fix irrespective of the forum *genuine question*. I have not followed the threads or the history in that much detail and only recently noticed mine had not updated!

Well think about it. The very nature of this bug makes it hard to do discover - it is difficult to notice that something is not happening that SHOULD be happening. It is much easier to notice that something IS happening that should NOT be happening. Most casual users will propbably never notice that something is wrong with their LTH detection.

The previous problem with LTH was that it was not updated correctly in the Connect App. Garmin took months to "fix" it. Some time afterwards, the first individual reports from users appeared in the 255 and 955 forums wondering about the missing LTH updates. These reports where then consolidated in the giant thread on the first page of this forum. There is NOTHING to indicate that Garmin has been aware of the issue before or that they would have become aware by themselves if not for the user reports. As of today, there has been no official acknowledgement or status update from Garmin on this issue.

This forum is absolutely essential for discovering bugs that would go unnoticed otherwise. Garmin QA seems to be bare minimum.

My issues with  my 955 didn't surface until way too late to return it. I spent $650 on the gear set and now it is essentially USELESS for anything other than heart rate. The displayed pace 3 or 4 runs ago was 2 minutes slow. Today the pace showed 1 minute faster than actual pace. HTF am I supposed to use the Garmin Coach program if I can't get even reasonably close to my real pace?? This is just one of the MANY MANY issues most of which didn't pop up initially.

Are you sure? Wasn't it released in June of '22? Seems you'd be under any 1-year warranty requirement.

I encourage anyone to to return their watch for defectiveness. However, it will be much harder to actually get that refund than in the case of a bog-standard, clear cut hardware defect. Still, we have to try.

Honestly, as long as they keep updating the 955 with new features (WHILE FIXING THE ONGOING BUGS!) at least a year from now, I am happy. There is _no way in Hell_ I am getting a 965, or an AMOLED watch in general. For me, my Garmin is a tool. It’s a fitness tracker. It’s not a watch. If I wanted a watch, I would have bought an analogue watch. It’s not a smart watch. If I wanted that, I would have gone with an Apple Watch (to fit into all the other gear in my Apple ecosystem). It serves one purpose: track my fitness/health and keep me on the right path during my runs. Basically, I want a Whoop-band with training functionality and metrics. And that I have with the 955. The MIP-display is wonderful. Dimmed, very anonymous, works like a charm outside, energy efficient. 

Why would I want an AMOLED with 800 nits and poor outdoor use compared to what I have? I don’t get it. Honestly, I don’t. Considered the Epix2 for a moment but for the sole purpose of my use case, I just want an anonymous piece on my arm. Done. 

So please, Garmin. Don’t lose the MIP-displays anytime soon. 

Also: couldn’t care less about a one-point ECG. A gimmick at best. So also please don’t make that the entry-point for future watches. I’m not interested in paying for it.

No it isn’t.

The 965 has layout changes coming from the epix 2.

The 965 has some metrics that will be ported to the 955 later this year.

To me, that sounds like a separate software branch and a seperate development team.

So expect different new bugs with each firmware release.

What do you expect from an influencer? 

My 955 cannot even track heart rate accurately. Even my 245M could do that. Sigh
