Forerunner 955 Series: When using Ski Activity Profile, activity does not pause when in lift line or on ski lift

Has anyone run into issues with the Ski app getting vastly different results of moving time compared to older watches? I went skiing with my wife using a 955 to her Fenix 6S Pro and for the 2:40 duration I got a moving time of 2:00, yet she got 0:33. The auto lap works when we hop on the lift, but so much time in line and on the lift the 955 is tracking as moving vs the 6S. This first came up when I was comparing to my friends 945 as well and resulted in me trying to stop the watch at the bottom of each run.

  • I went for my first ski today with my 955 and was really disappointed to realize it considered the time in the lifts and even when I was having lunch as part of the runs. This makes the statistics useless. My Vivoactive 4 didn't have that issue, I hope it gets fixed because it doesn't make sense...

  • Hopefully this is somehow fixed in 14.06 beta, not sure if anyone running it has skied with it yet.

  • I’m waiting to get the beta to try it out. I’ll report it there if there is no improvement.

  • Same problem here. 955 realizes that I am in a lift and start the next run. Compared to 935 it seems to include the length of the lift in the distance measurements and all the time in the queue in the time measurement. Thus, it becomes completely useless.

  • Same issue for me as well - unfortunately that makes the skiing stats significantly less valuable. My brother is using a Venu 2 Plus - which worked exactly as it should on our joint skiing runs, that is immediately stopping the run after arriving down at the ski lift, resulting in the correct information for each run - whereas for the FR955 it really only terminated a run during the uphill lift again, leading to completely biased values for the distance, Average speed etc. - hope this is fixed soon as it seems to work perfectly fine on most other models

  • Have the same problem. It worked on my old Vivoactive 4. Waiting for fix.

  • I can confirm the issue (Garmin 955, firmware 13.22). Generally, it would stop the run only after about 20m of elevation is gained in the ski lift. It might also be including distance from the ski lift in the subsequent run, but I am not sure about it.

  • Yes, it includes distance from the ski lift (firmware 13.22). That's why I noticed the issue, my skied distance was almost doubled, compared to the previous year (the same resort, about the same skiing time, but recorded with Vivoactive 4).

  • Hi all, I checked the last two days:

    - the watch never pauses

    - it starts a new run when you enter a lift and it starts to go up.

If you look at the image below you can see height and speed superimposed. Going up at constant speed is clearly included as well as the zero speed times in the lift queues.

    This is clearly a bug.

I am really disappointed that something that worked flawlessly on 935 for five years and obviously on every other Garmin watch is now buggy on the top of the line forerunner. Garmin needs to add more resources to quality testing!

  • … even more disappointing because the 955 has a map of all the slopes and lifts so it should even have mire information to do this correctly compared to previous watches…
