Forerunner 955 Series: When using Ski Activity Profile, activity does not pause when in lift line or on ski lift

Has anyone run into issues with the Ski app getting vastly different results of moving time compared to older watches? I went skiing with my wife using a 955 to her Fenix 6S Pro and for the 2:40 duration I got a moving time of 2:00, yet she got 0:33. The auto lap works when we hop on the lift, but so much time in line and on the lift the 955 is tracking as moving vs the 6S. This first came up when I was comparing to my friends 945 as well and resulted in me trying to stop the watch at the bottom of each run.

  • Today I recorded skiing with both 955 and Venu 2 Plus. The distance recorded on 955 is almost double of the distance from the Venu. Venu was clearly pausing the recording while on the ski lift. I am happy to share the fit files if that helps with debugging.

  • Is the bug still happening with 14.06?

  • Went skiing on Thursday and had the same problem, it appears the watch ski activity does not pause when waiting at the lift, going up the lift, or sitting in at a table dinning. My wife's and sons Fenix 7 and Fenix 5 seemed just fine. My time using my Forerunner 955 was over 6 1/2 hours while theirs was less than 2 hours, distance of my Forerunner was over 27 miles vs theirs of  under 15, active calories of my Forerunner was near 800 vs theirs of 280. Clearly something wrong with the Forerunner 955 ski activity,

  • I can’t get over the fact that such a large bug exists in the 955. Skiing worked flawlessly for years in older watches as it does on all other watches apparently. And this is not  firmware version zero point something but 13.22.

How can Garmin have missed that?

Why have they not reacted here yet?

Is there another way to report a bug?

  • Garmin seem to have absolutely no own resources in quality testing.

YOU are the quality tester. Everyone of us, who buys Garmins most expensive smartwatches is a quality tester.

Nothing has been tested before the product has been launched for selling.

Garmin happily takes the money, waiting for the worst customer complaints, and then doing some minor of the work that should have been done BEFORE product launch. Step-by-step, and only unavoidable issues, because it mustn't cost them so much money.

Sad, but thats it. You can see it in almost any of their newer products.

  • Dear , has this bug been recognized/reported/discussed yet?

  • All-

Thank you for your participation in this forum thread.  So that I may assist you further, please reply with the following:

    1. May we, if necessary, have permission to email you?
    2. May we, if necessary, have permission to view/access your Garmin Connect account?
    3. In what country do you live?
  • For me:

    1. Yes

    2. Yes

    3. United States but I have been skiing in Canada for the last few weeks

    Thanks for looking into it!

  • Exact same answers for me!

  • 1. Yes

    2. Yes

    3. Netherlands

I also have the same activity recorded with Venu 2 Plus for a side-by-side comparison.

There is also some other issue. The 955 dropped recording in the middle of 2 skiing activities even though I didn't pause it manually. It is visible as a jump on the elevation plot as well as on the GPS trace.
