Forerunner 955 Series: When using Ski Activity Profile, activity does not pause when in lift line or on ski lift

Has anyone run into issues with the Ski app getting vastly different results of moving time compared to older watches? I went skiing with my wife using a 955 to her Fenix 6S Pro and for the 2:40 duration I got a moving time of 2:00, yet she got 0:33. The auto lap works when we hop on the lift, but so much time in line and on the lift the 955 is tracking as moving vs the 6S. This first came up when I was comparing to my friends 945 as well and resulted in me trying to stop the watch at the bottom of each run.

  • Hi  may I ask you - are there any news on when this bug could be finally fixed? Assuming it works fine on many other models (including 945) I would expect this should be an easy one to fix. Skiing season is slowly coming to its end here in Europe and this bug made the 955 pretty useless for this popular winter sports activity Disappointed Thanks!

  • Yes, exactly the same... Queing time added to the descent run, somewhere 1/3 of the lift starts a new run, adding that time.. Really dissapointed, as couple years ago the FR 935 worked flawlessly. On top of this the constant issue of touch screen becoming partially unresponsive (yes, even on the latest FW)... rally sad..

  • Hello Garmin,

I made a direct comparison between my old Fenix 5 (right wrist) and Forerunner 955 Solar Software: 14.15 (left wrist). The results are completely different as you can see in attached links
    1. Yes, you can send me email
    2. Yes, you can access my Garmin account
    3. Czech republic. I was skiing in Austria

  • We are making progress and hope to be releasing a fix soon in a future software update. Unfortunately we do not have a timeline for this, but we appreciate your patience and apologize for the delay.

  • Same issue.

Yes Yes UK but skiing in France

  • Hey, this problem is still present on my Forerunner 955 solar with software version 14.20.

    1. Yes

    2. Yes

    3. Germany

  • Pretty disappointed with Garmin unable to fix this issue in a reasonable timeframe. Moreover, this is one of their flagship models.

Not able to fix the issue signals me:
    - Garmin software codebase is total mess, without control. I would expect that they have an operating system that adjust itself to the underlying hardware, while providing common interface to the applications (like run, swim, skiing, etc.) that are the same for all watches. That is called decoupling.

    - Opposite of above, seems that operating system and applications are tight together and tight coupled. How else can I explain to myself that skiing app works on 945, Fenix 7 but not on 955 (app is also working on majority of other models). I would expect that this is the same application for every Garmin model that has hardware that supports skiing. Period. Everything else it is not appropriate for multinational company like Garmin. Looks like they have separate code base (operating system and applications) for each model and probably developed by various, different development teams. With lot of copy paste actions and without synchronization between those development teams.

Having the quality software is more important In these days when software accounts for majority of value for such category of goods.

If Garmin will continue with such stupid bugs, I am expecting that in a couple of years 90% percent of the sport watch market will be held by Apple and Samsung.

Sadly, because I still like Garmin products.
