What can you expect from a 500USD sports watch ???

My Forunner 945 is no more than 4 month old and and one morning like others
I found the glass split in two. I did nothing I can relate to the damage so I my
eyes it did crack spontanous.

The watch is marketed with brand names such as Gorilla Glass etc implying it is a robust
watch.

Despite this Garmin (Sweden) claims that no warranty applies and I have to pay for repair(replacement).

Thier policy is that damage - if not documented production fault - i never covered by warranty or goodwill.

It is a shame on an very expensive watch that from other user and execise perspectives is excellent is
so fragile (or at least my one was...).

I expect much more from a 500USD watch and Garmin Support Sweden have convinced me that my next
watch will NOT be a Garmin

i have no problems with it and intense use. sof far.

Never had with other Garmins as well.

I feel with you,

but overall its just a statement from you that the glass cracked without your interaction. Common knowledge would say, thats not very likely.

These type of things are very hard to prove. Unless Garmin get several reports of spontaneously cracked watch glasses it is unlikely that they will repair it for free (warranty). This is why you got insurance, but I guess that the insurance deductible is higher than what they will charge you for a repair.

I use screen protector glass on my 945. I've already cracked 3 (two caused by me and one "spontaneous"). They are easier to crack since they are on top of the watch glass.

It is a shame, but these things do happen and not spontaneously. It either came in impact with something that hit it just right and you don't know when, or the temperature went from one extreme to another so quickly it cracked. I'm certain that isn't the case. Gorilla Glass is stronger than regular glass and scratch resistant, but it isn't crack or scratch proof.

I don´t claim that Gorilla Glass in impact proof - just that I expect that you notice when you reach the level of impact required to crack
the glass... I have had MANY watched before this one and NEVER cracked a glass... To bad for I like the system but next will be Polar or Suunto

An Garmin support claim they don´t have any opinion to the need of screen protectors for their products as
they don´t sell or market those. So , they did NOT recommend me to buy screen protector ...

I can say that the morning this happened I did nothing irregular. My earlier Polars , TomToms etc have been through situation where I actually
was amazed that they did not break ... maybe Garmin is just for sports like Chess ?

Depends on how you play chess I suppose.

Personally I always take my watch off before any activity and especially when I play chess. I have dual screen protectors and found a latex sleeve for the watch. I don’t even have a scratch on my watch as a result. It looks absolutely pristine. And the glass has never spontaneously broken.

Maybe something for you to consider?

Interesting that Garmin support don´t want to answer my question if they recommends glass protector or latext sleeve...
I asked as their watch seem to be rather fragile ... so they obviously don´t think their product should not be used IRL ...

How much it indeed sucks for you, glass usually doesn't spontaneously break... And this is the first time I actually hear something like this for a garmin watch.

Heard it before in a certain phone but then there are more occurrences and it becomes clear there's something more going on.

Anyway, I have the watch for over 2 years now and it's still going strong. Out of habit I do have a screen protector on it but heard from plenty who don't and still all is ok.

So can't really blame garmin for assuming user error here and the fact you seem to be the only one suffering from it at least proves the watch isn't as fragile as you'd like to make it seem.
