Where is the advanced sleep tracking for the 945?

Hello all,

I noticed that the Fenix 6 a while back received a new sleep tracking algo or similar roughly 9 months ago I think? This gave better widgets and I believe a sleep score alongside more accurate tracking. Currently the only thing I don't like about my Garmin is the sleep tracking as it picks up a lack of deep sleep and a lack of me waking up i.e I wake up at 8am and lie in bed for an hour (maybe with eyes shut for some of it) but my wake up time is like 9:08.

Fitbit seem to do this really well and It would be great if this new algo helps this. When can we expect to see it for the 945?

Thanks

Josh

  • Fitbit is registering when you wake up at 8, lie in your bed with closed eyes for an hour, get up at 9 and then tells you that you woke up at 8? Can’t believe that.

The advanced sleep tracking was killed off in internal beta, they didn’t get it to work on the 945. I would bet no money that it will arrive before the 955.
I bought a few Fenixes in my life (1, 2, 5, 5HR) and two Forerunners (210, 945). I will never again buy a Forerunner wich should be on par with the Fenix line up or wich Garmin stated it will get Fenix features (like advanced sleep tracking).

My next daily smart watch will be an Apple Watch and fit the buttons on my second replacement Forerunner 945 still work then, it will be only for activity tracking for metrics AW apps don’t record/calculate.

  • Interesting they killed it off so quickly. I use an AW currently alongside the garmin wearing them both together. I really do hope it comes. I thought they had the same internal basically.

I can’t speak on Fitbit from first hand experience but I do know it’s meant to be the best on the market by a mile (you tuber called Quantified scientists does highly scientific tests which show its accuracy).

  • I would bet no money that it will arrive before the 955.

Yep, ATM, I would feel better bet to be that they are busy with 955 and after 955 launch something will bubble back to 945, probably mostly those which have been "promised", but are nowhere to be seen.

  • There is no trickle down of in-device features with Garmin to last Gen Devices. . Online if it is done on the back-end like route sync with Strava, Komoot and such. Ja

  • Well, they have made promises, so I would guess they want to keep them, or has people already given up. Also 9X5 has gotten new features that newer Fenix watches had gotten on the launch, I see that also as that.

  • I'm hoping the new widgets and on-device scoring will come soon. I'm feeling quite fatigued at the moment - and so some sleep insights would be good to see where my HRV stats are going up or down. Not keen on buying a Oura ring.

  • What bothers me would be their silence, because it does not give a new forecast since they have not fulfilled the previous one. The forum moderator always observes and says nothing, only responds when it is convenient.

  • It would be great if they did add this useful feature (which I believe was promised). Overall I'm quite happy with my 945, though if it can be improved via software updates, that would be great. In terms of hardware, a bit less of a display bezel would be nice.

Seems like 2021 would be the year for the 955 to be released as it's been two years.Anyone know anything about this, or the possible feature set? Better GPS chip perhaps?

  • Well the moderators did say it's coming, and Ray also received info that it was coming to the 245/745/945. Would be a bummer if they changed their minds.

  • Plus this has been 5 months, I'd like to know the next update because it's not so brief anymore. Kkkkkkkk
