Where is the advanced sleep tracking for the 945?

Hello all,

I noticed that the Fenix 6 a while back received a new sleep tracking algo or similar roughly 9 months ago I think? This gave better widgets and I believe a sleep score alongside more accurate tracking. Currently the only thing I don't like about my Garmin is the sleep tracking as it picks up a lack of deep sleep and a lack of me waking up i.e I wake up at 8am and lie in bed for an hour (maybe with eyes shut for some of it) but my wake up time is like 9:08.

Fitbit seem to do this really well and It would be great if this new algo helps this. When can we expect to see it for the 945?

Thanks

Josh

  • Hello, I wanted to comment in on this thread. I don't like to post updates without new information as I don't intend to sound patronizing. It is in the works and it will be coming. Just to clarify what is coming, is the sleep insights and the sleep score. The updated recovery time is not dependent on the sleep score.

    Sleep Score

The quality of sleep is rated on a scale of 1-100. Higher scores indicate more restful and healthy sleep.

    Insights

Insights provide information about your sleep. They may include that your sleep was stressful, letting you know that you should try to get better sleep.

Not to say this information isn't important information; I wish I could snap my fingers and get it delivered 4 months ago. How it interacts with recovery time is already in place, I have seen a few threads bringing that up. What Is the Recovery Time Feature on My Garmin Device?

If you are experiencing issues with accuracy, I would recommend making sure the following are correct.

Steps to Ensure Sleep Data Accuracy

Again, we completely hear the passion behind the sleep widget, as soon as it is released we will get a post up, until then your continued patience is appreciated.

  • Hi Brooks and thank you for taking the time to answer, it certainly doesn't change my life to know my sleep score since I can't change its physiological course anyway. As you say the recovery works and I realized it, as the physio true up with edge 130 works very well. I know very well how to use FR945, I am a TLC technician for more than 30 years and I do maintenance to cellular networks, I do exactly that that you have suggested and I repeat that it works, here we are discussing the fact that at "almost" HW parity there are a lot of SW disparities, that's all. Also that Garmin products are clearly buggy for at least half of their life and this doesn't seem fair to a customer, I come from a FR645M that has had a lot of serious problems and no one has ever apologized, in the end changed with my money from despair. Hello Friend

  • HI Brooks,

I find it difficult for the algorithm to be correct, because it is very inaccurate even though I made all the settings above. I never received a message that my recovery was improved or worsened by sleep. Even though I have an excellent night's sleep, I believe that the Fenix 6 line is working better. The watch is unable to record deep sleep. Every night 10 min only, I'm sure this is not correct. If Garmin is already using fisrbeat's sleep metrics, there is something wrong.

  • Thanks for the update and feeling our passion. Makes being patient easier. Slight smile

  • Much appreciated.Thank you

  • I really hope sleep tracking is improved.  Not so much the sleep stages, because thats less important to me, but the actual amount of sleep.

Back in the early versions of 6.x I was happy because it was finally figuring out when I feel asleep and woke up.  Now with the later versions it is back to me being asleep hours before I lay down, and staying asleep hours after I wake up.  I can see activity from walking while I am awake but unless I open the app and force a sync the tracking seems to think I am still in bed.

I haven't sleep 8 hours straight in over a month (not sure why). Most days not even 8 total hours (even when trying to nap during the day out of exhaustion). But according to the device I am averaging 9-11 hours a night. I sometimes go in and correct the start and end times to times I know I was still awake, but can't do anything about the many times I wake up during the night).  But I have had it even get confused when I take off the watch to charge it and put it back on fully charged and it still counts that as sleeping.

I will get woken up due to near by construction, a woodpecker, bathroom, etc.  I will be up walking around for more than 30 minutes (often more than 2 hours) and go back to sleep and the watch wont realize I was awake at all. Perhaps if I could correct that it could learn, but frankly this doesn't seem to have the machine learning in the backend to do that.

  • lol it was scheduled to be released in November, that's 4 months ago.

  • Where is Garmin's announcement of that?

  • SW Descent update just arrived: Support for sleep calculation on the device (requires and updated sensor hub), or the Forerunners have a different HW from all the others (I don't think) or we are hostage to some international conspiracy Grinning We laugh that there is nothing else left to do
