Rainmaker said so, but there is no sign of it, no new beta, nothing.
Since it's mostly an algorithm change and it's out for the fenix 6 some weeks ago, I guess the 945 is slowly being abandoned....

Ok, so now I'm counting hours to the first "Trail Run VO2max is rubbish!" complaint thread.
You buy a $450 watch and sometimes lose in appeal for Chinese watches.
Then go with your Chinese watch. You're not fooling anyone. If you're Chinese watch was so much better, you'd own one…

Only until the next Fenix is out...
Of course, but it still seems to get more love before that, haven't looked how much does the Fenix tick-tock model affect it, does the X version get love until X+1 version or does it stop when the "facelift"/tock is released. Also yearly release cycle for new HW models is expensive thing to always upgrade :D

Good question. I wouldn't know. My last one was the Fenix 3HR, and it didn't get any love as soon as the Fenix 5 came out (it really starts to feel strange using the word "love" so much... )
Also yearly release cycle for new HW models is expensive thing to always upgrade :D
Indeed it is! My wife only allowed me to buy me a Fenix, because I bought HER one too! (I still wonder whether she didn't see the contriarety or if she simply was assuaged by her own Fenix)
And I'm sure the kids will understand, that studying is so much more rewarding if they manage to get a sholarship by their own hard work...
Good question. I wouldn't know.
Maybe someone can enlighten us on that. As I don't have Fenix I don't so much follow it. I would hope that the tock/facelift doesn't stop the features coming to the X model. But then what about the facelift/tock version, will it only get one year, or how.. does those work.
But even if the new features stops rolling in Garmin has pretty good support for fixing bugs that affect usability.
I guess one could also look at it like this:
In today's Superleague Triathlon in Rotterdam, were the athletes wearing Fenix watches? Nope. They had FR 945s. So which is the "pro" watch?
But even if the new features stops rolling in Garmin has pretty good support for fixing bugs that affect usability.
Yeah, by the time the SW is solid, the HW starts failing But then, I've always been able to RMA a device that started acting up HW-wise (thx Garmin).
Actualy, wasn't the Fenix 5 Plus series the one who didn't get any meaningful new features after release?
So which is the "pro" watch?
Did you read this comment? https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-945/257494/will-trail-vo2-max-come-to-945/1246946#1246946
Yes, Fenix is lifestyle, 945 is multisport, but on the other hand, Garmin uses Fenix on different sports:
https://www.garmin.com/en-US/newsroom/press-release/outdoor/2015-garmin-announces-sponsorship-of-professional-snowboarders-and-2015-x-games-gold-medalists-mark-mcmorris-and-silje-norendal/
So it's segmentation to which watch sponsor in what sports, but is there some requirements for SW quality based on this.
I do agree with your previous comment re Fenix as a test device for new features. Stable firmware would be an absolute requirement in a professional indoor triathlon event
Yes, Fenix is lifestyle, 945 is multisport, but on the other hand, Garmin uses Fenix on different sports:
What is your definition of lifestyle? Lifestyle would be anything you're into. Garmin categorizes the Vivo series and Venu watches as Fitness and Wellbeing watches. This is your concerned about health crowd. The Forerunner's are running/multi-sport watches (triathlon type). This is what you'd expect to see at running events and marathons. The Fenix series is categorized as an Outdoor Enthusiast watch. They enjoy the multi-sport activities plus. There are events (biathlon type) that include navigation, climbing and moving through rough terrain where you'd be unlikely to see a Forerunner. So, "pro" would be the top end watch in each category and not used exclusively for runners. Garmin started off catering towards runners, but I believe the trend has shifted and there are much more Outdoor Enthusiasts buying Garmin watches then there are runners. It makes sense to me that the Fenix line has more updates and new features added before any other line.
To me lifestyle watch has options that are more about aesthetic than functionality and more like a "status symbol". Like if we look at Suunto: https://www.suunto.com/Product-search/Lifestyle-Watches/
https://discover.garmin.com/en-US/fenix-6/ and looking at this page, Garmin doesn't seem to talk anything about Outdoor Enthusiast, I see that it's "This is the premium multisport GPS smartwatch for those who strive to push their limits.". Which to me implicates it's just the material and look that's different from the other multisport watches eg. Forerunner (which isn't really the case nowadays).
Then if you go to shop https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/641479 - "
Fit the look to your lifestyle with your choice of stainless steel, titanium or DLC coated bezels. Each Sapphire edition adds a scratch-resistant sapphire lens and premium materials."
I guess it's all where you look. Here's more lifestyle watches according to Garmin.

This is the description on Garmin USA site.
