Garmin 945 taking very long time to sync to GPS

I can see from going through the forums here this is a recurring issue, most of these articles are over a year old, is this issue still going on?  I have a ForeRunner 235 and a ForeRunner 935, my 235 syncs to GPS in seconds whereas the 945 over triple the price is taking minutes to find GPS on average, I am on latest software.  Please let me know what I can do about this.  Thanks.

  • You are rigjt, as soon as you take the watch away from the window it will loos the signal, sometimes it confuses the watch and you get weird results. I tried this with my old watch and it sit not work.

Why would that surprise you? I'm guessing that you mean you bring the watch inside when you take it away from the window? There are places in my house where I can get a good GPS signal and ohers where there is no connection - my house is not big around 90 sqm.

The only place to test for GPS connectivity is outside the house where there is good line of sight to the sky.

  • It's not surprising me. It's exactly what I sayed. What surprises me is that you get a signal inside. I know no building where I get a signal inside...... the idea to try it was, if it has a gps fix the new fix, just a few meter away will be faster but it was wrong.

I am going to receive a new 945 in the next few days. I will report if the issue persists (which would make it a general problem in my understanding) or if it gets better.

I just received another 945. I updated to the latest firmware, did a hard reset, deleted the RemoveSW files, and synced it. I left it outside with GPS running for 30 minutes. The sync is still super slow. Sometimes in the 2-3 minutes. It takes at least 30+ seconds to sync every time. Not sure how some people make this watch sync in 5 seconds. For me, this seems to be a general "issue" with the 945 in that it provides slow performance. The 745 syncs in a couple of seconds (<5) for me. Really disappointing for me, because I like the 945 in general and would've loved to use it :-(

  • it used to take 30 seconds for my FR945 to get the fix, in the last two weeks it only always took 2 or 3 seconds, despite being in different high alpine starting points.

  • It takes my FR945 around 2 minutes to accuire a GPS fix.

This started happening about 3 months ago.

I just returned my 945 and I am really disappointed. I didn't expect that things were so bad with Garmin. The products seem to have a huge quality issue and the software quality is really bad too. I used an apple watch before and the whole experience and level of quality were just so much better. Unfortunately, the apple watch is not made as a true sports watch. I hope someone is going to fill that gap. e.g. provide a good sports watch with excellent software & hardware quality.
