This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically with Garmin Connect Mobile.

Change Log

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.
  • Please don’t turn off do not disturb after updates. My watch keeps waking me up in the middle of the night after updates.

    Thank you for the updates!

  • Forerunner 945, using a Galaxy Note 10+ Running beta 4.06

    Average hour burn: 1.6%
    Turn off Bluetooth: 0.4%

Downloaded the new live update--guess what?

    Same drain.

Nothing was addressed, and if you're going to respond with "well just turn off the Bluetooth!" save it, the watch is meant to be used in tandem with your phone. That is its default state. All notifications from the phone are meant to go to it, music is intended to be streamed from it. That is what I expected from the watch when I paid for it.

You, are, supposed, to, use, the, watch, with, your, phone.

It's not a screwy problem with the code, or with a watch face, or the backlight, or gestures. It's not the music, It's the watch connecting via Bluetooth to the phone and murdering your watches battery. And it makes no sense. Why with this model they can't get this part right? My 935 didn't have this problem at all. I even did a complete purge of the app, the store app, disconnected the watch entirely from my phone, hard reset both my phone and watch, and reconnected.

    Nothing changed.

The problem is the Bluetooth and Garmin are not addressing it.

  • I am completely happy with the 4.10 update. No issues so far. Battery drain very reasonable.

    Happy.

  • Thanks guys and I get that. However, if my assumption of FR945 having elevation data coming from preloaded maps holds true, then based on x & y coordinates z should be spot-on. Or am I missing something?

  • You're missing something. Elevation data is always going to be a bit inaccurate.

I don't think topographic data from maps is used in calculations at all. Elevation has a couple sources:

1: Gps: Provides absolute measurements that can be somewhat inaccurate. Because of angles to satellites, GPS position is much more accurate than elevation.

2: Barometric pressure: This is good for relative measurements over short periods of time. For example, during a hill climb in a workout. However, this is greatly affected by temperature so it cannot be used for absolute measurements.

  • Not really a complaint, just trying to understand how this phased rollout works now that I've been through it a few times.

All of the previous rollouts I have learned I am clearly with a device whose serial number is always in the last phase.  That's fine, I got a replacement 945 last october so it's fairly recent (it replaced one I bought at launch though).

But now that we're in 100% rollout, why isn't this update showing up?  It seems like I always have to wait until overnight despite the phasing being shown as complete here.  is there something about the overnight cycle that has to prompt it?

I have tried restarting the watch, putting on the charger, turning auto-update off and then back on again, etc.  I am admittedly a bit impatient but mostly just trying to understand the process.

  • I of course do not intend to confuse things by stating how this update can be downloaded. If it's helpful I can add (subject to rollout percentage) if that is helpful.

  • How often do you refresh GC on your phone?

  • As often as I think about it, doesn't seem to make any difference syncing 945 that way.

  • It's your phone that downloads the update and sends it to your watch. If your not refreshing connect then it's not getting the update.
