Total external comms dropout on 4.0

On my run yesterday, I noted a period of about 3.5 minutes where all external comms was lost.

The 945 lost connection to my BT headphones, the HRM-Run over ANT+ and the Stryd FP over ANT+

After the 3.5 mins, they all reconnected.

During the outage the watch continued recording and switched to internal sensors for HR, pace and cadence. GPS continued recording the whole time.

The 945 is running FW 4.00 with GPS 2.70 Ant/BT 5.01 and SensorHub 3.20

Former Member - Should I report this to the support email alias, or is mentioning it here good enough?

I can provide a link to the run over DM on request.

  • Did you check that it downgraded also the sensor hub and others? I'm not sure how the downgrade works, will it downgrade those firmware parts.

  • Hopefully Garmin will acknowledge this

Downgrading the firmware does NOT downgrade the sensor hub or GPS software etc... It will also be quite tricky to find out what version of the sensor hub I had originally paired with the v2.80 firmware release (i.e. in the Garmin Connect website it only logs the firmware version against the activity/workout).

I did - twice. That was my first port of call before this forum.

First time support agent suggested deleting the GarminDevice.xml from the watch (didn't resolve the issue) and the second time (a different support agent) refused to help because the device I was connecting to was a Stryd Footpod and not a Garmin device.

  • What did Stryd have to say?

The Stryd agent I spoke to thought it may have been caused by some stale data left behind from deprecated Stryd Power IQ field causing a conflict with the newly installed replacement called Styrd Zones. They provided instructions on how to do a clean uninstall which I followed but ultimately did not help with the dropouts.

  • Any change ragarding drop outs with 4.10?

  • And you've followed up with Stryd since?

Unfortunately you're stuck in that limbo land where Garmin blame Stryd and Stryd blame Garmin.

Have you looked at the Stryd forums for advice?

To to be fair to Stryd they didn't blame Garmin and I know it's not an issue with the Stryd because I tested it with my 2 year old model and a brand new one. Both only experienced dropouts when connected to 945.

No - nothing has turned up on the Stryd forums regarding 945 dropouts. Currently suffering from tech fatigue but I'll try Garmin support again in a couple of days.

I haven't installed 4.10 but according to Former Member it is the same as 4.06 beta which I had installed previously. In the release notes it didn't specifically mention any fixes to ANT+ connections etc.. so I'm not getting my hopes up. Perhaps when the update is available for you to install, you could give it a go?
