Total external comms dropout on 4.0

On my run yesterday, I noted a period of about 3.5 minutes where all external comms was lost.

The 945 lost connection to my BT headphones, the HRM-Run over ANT+ and the Stryd FP over ANT+

After the 3.5 mins, they all reconnected.

During the outage the watch continued recording and switched to internal sensors for HR, pace and cadence. GPS continued recording the whole time.

The 945 is running FW 4.00 with GPS 2.70 Ant/BT 5.01 and SensorHub 3.20

Former Member - Should I report this to the support email alias, or is mentioning it here good enough?

I can provide a link to the run over DM on request.

  • Exact same issue with a standard Garmin RD Pod.

Same type of issue but I'm only using Stryd. I tend to average around 3 to 4 dropouts during a 1 hour workout and each dropout lasts for around 3.5 to 4 mins. Contacted Garmin support last week but the agent was unwilling to help because Stryd is not a Garmin device. You might have better luck with them because you are experiencing the issue with a Garmin HRM-Run so in theory they should be able to provide support.

  • Same here. During my last two 45min runs my HRM-run dropped out twice. Reconnected after maybe 2-3 minutes each time. This dors not happen when I’m on the treadmill though.

Probably should have mentioned this in my first reply as well but same as you, dropouts never occur during treadmill based workouts. I'm guessing the dropouts might be temperature related due to the connection during treadmill workouts are OK and the fact that I did not experience any dropouts during the summer and autumn months.

Assuming your HRM is a Garmin one and you haven't done so already, I would recommend you contact Garmin support. At the very least they have to provide you some form of assistance unlike me where they flatly refused to provide any help.

  • I started a support ticket this afternoon.

  • Some helpful information for us to gather from anyone experiencing this would be:

    • What sensors are paired
    • Do all of these sensor drop
    • What app(s) are you seeing these dropouts in
    • Does this occur indoors and/or outdoors
    • Is there a consistent time frame that this happens in
    • What software version/sensor hub version do you have installed
  • 1.  The RD-POD is the one that drops out (even after a fresh battery change).  I have a Garmin FootPod that does not drop out, but I've only had it paired once since updating to 3.9/4.0 as well.

    2.  Just RD-POD

    3.  Run

    4.  Outdoors (haven't ran indoors in a year)

    5.  It will happen at any time from near the beginning of a run, middle of a run, later in the run, etc...  it typically gets more reliable the longer I've been running for, but I have seen one or two dropouts as late as 45 minutes into a run.

    6.  4.0/2.7

    1. Stryd Footpod (with the latest model and the previous one)

    2. Yes, however I only ever connect to one sensor

    3. Run based workouts

    4. Outdoor only. Never experienced a single dropout indoors (i.e. Treadmill workout)

    5. Not really but first dropout tends to happen within 30mins then subsequent dropouts can happen anytime after that. Each dropout lasts between 3.5 to 4mins, then connection is established again.

    6. SW: 4.06, SH: 3.20. The dropouts started happening from software version 3.30 onwards.

  • For me it’s the HRM-Run that keeps dropping out. Only outdoors, not on treadmill runs. Yesterday it dropped once, after 18 min. Today on the exact same route it dropped out twice, after 23 and 30 minutes. After 3-4 minutes units connects again.  Happens on firmware 4.0 and also on 4.06 Beta.

  • Anything more on this? The problem is still present on my outdoor runs. FW 4.06 ”,GPS 2.70, Sensor hub 3.20
