SW 3.90: 50%more Battery drain

again in this Firmware Release the Battery Drain is very high, more or less 50% more then usual before, use everything with standard settings as delivered, only Spo2 Measurement during night, instead of 7-8% battery drain a day i have now 16-19% a day!

Made hard reset, but didn't help!

  • Has anyone tried to use the downgrade GCD files in the 3.77 beta to rollback to 3.30? (including GPS and BT)

  • So, your answer is: I'll do nothing proactive but complain!

It was a suggestion to try. If you don't see a change, Bingo Garmin is to blame! If you do see a shift in battery life, you've just fixed your problem.

Your stance is akin to someone fixing it for you with zero effort on your end. That is an awful way to deal with anything.

I'll leave you to your complaining then.

Hey, then not only i understand your answer wrong, when i read it, it sounds like you mean to hard reset watch and phone!

anyway, more or less i made this hard reset already as you can read in the start topic!

and sure, Garmin is blamed, thats correct, because of their quality software testing, this are beginner bugs compared to the good software they are able to develop!

Sorry but I also misunderstood your advice and thought about factory reset. I tried your mentioned path. We will see what will happen.

First night after this reset showed me that there was no more sleep tracking or puls ox during night. Also this was activated on the watch but was not on Garmin connect app. Also the the list of apps which are allowed for smart notifications was resettet.

And yes, I still blame Garmin for that, because it could not be the mentioned way to reset everything after an update. Sorry but an update have to be plug and play. So I mean it have to run after installation or maybe restart of the watch.

  • I'm my case battery drain has been increased dramatically: watch completely discharged during night in approx 6 hours. I have SpO2 and HR active.

With such battery drain I cannot use watch for sport activities.

Before fw upgrade I was able to use watch for approx 8 days with a couple of GPS run (60-80 mins each) plus 2-3 indoor activities.

  • IMO, that battery drain is probably related to the BT update... so when you are not using the watch to get notifications from your phone, you get no battery drain.

  • I get one notification per hour on average and my battery drain is 1% per hour. This is at least double than before this last frickin update. Can Garmin for once just stop adding features and focus on quality. Is this too much to ask? Don't they test in house before releasing? I really wonder if they use the watches in the dev team. This is a major issue that is very very obvious!

  • I reckon the issue is related to the BT update but not so much the notifications, but how the watch constantly syncs with the phone in the background.

  • I don’t think it is. I put it into airplane mode (which should switch off Bluetooth) last night and the battery went down by 12% in 4 hours! The battery life with 3.90 is terrible.

  • Like I said before each update is a roll of the dice. 3.30 worked the best for me and I didn't need the new features. I had itchy fingers and updated to 3.90 and got burnt. When I come across the next Unicorn update one day I will make an effort not to update.

  • I went from 0.1% per hour (3.30)  to 0.7% (3.90)

    that's a x7 increase !!!
