Is the button issue resolved now?

After receiving a 945 a couple of months ago and seeing reports here of buttons not clicking that the up and down buttons on mine were quite squishy.

i didn't see much point exchanging at the time as replacements looked to be the same or worse.

Wondering at this stage if the issue has been fixed 100% or is it still current on new ones as otherwise this one is working ok.

For me the down button clicks if left a couple of seconds between pushes while the up button never clicks.

i'd like to know I'm getting one that's better before swapping otherwise it's not worth the inconvenience.

I'm in Australia if that makes any difference to the batches being sent out.

  • Well, the buttons working is pretty key in the functionality of this device. If you've never had this problem, the buttons become softer and softer until they eventually jam themselves inside the casing of the watch, or are so slow to release the buttons are useless.  This is a defect, not a "nice to have".  I had a fenix that never had this issue, as well as a 235, so it's clearly a problem with their QA.

  • Couldn't agree more. Buttons that do not function as they should is an objective fact and in need of a solution.

Buttons that don't 'feel' right but function as they should is very different and a subjective opinion.

I've cycled and ran with Garmin watches since the FR305, and swam cycled and ran with them since the 310XT and can honestly say, hand on heart, that never have I had a button not function as intended when it was pressed. Different tactile response between watches yes, but never a failure.

Clearly if the button doesn't do what it's meant to do then there's a definite need to involve Garmin or the local retailer.

  • Had one of the first batch after the initial release. Buttons were bad but it was acceptable, in December the lap button changed to zero feedback. Opened a ticket and got a RMA to send the watch in. Send it, the day after tomorrow a completely new one arrived. This time the buttons have a very good feedback. All in all, a very fast and good support!

  • Sounds like good service. Mine is currently in for a swap but they said it would be between 10-14 business days before I receive a new one! That’s a long time to be without a watch! I’m from the UK so maybe that makes a difference.

  • In the eMail was stated also 10 days, but it was much faster. :)

  • Hmm interesting. What country are you based in? I might give Garmin a quick call to see if they can help speed it up.

  • I don't remember there ever was an official statement from Garmin that a particular revision fixed the problem. Only anectodal evidence that Rev D seems to be better but as Garmin now only produces this one, it makes sense that for some people they see the problem being fixed with this version.

I myself had a Rev D replacement 2 weeks ago, so far it's ok, not the best buttons I ever had on a watch, but definitely better than my previous device (Rev C).

Again, without an official statement, we don't know if this i

    any news?

today i received replacement for Rev C to Rev D!

i have the replacment watch Rev D since arround 3 month and no button problem anymore!

anyway, one side of the Garmin Box tell me Rev A, the other side of the box tells me Rev D Stuck out tongue closed eyes

  • I'm in middle of marathon training too.  Just initiated an immediate return where they put the hold on my card until I return my watch.  Waiting for them to ship the new one so I'm not without for weeks.
My back button got squishy and started the double click thing.  Hoping the new one is better.
Had this one since October and was great until last week.
