Is the button issue resolved now?

After receiving a 945 a couple of months ago and seeing reports here of buttons not clicking that the up and down buttons on mine were quite squishy.

i didn't see much point exchanging at the time as replacements looked to be the same or worse.

Wondering at this stage if the issue has been fixed 100% or is it still current on new ones as otherwise this one is working ok.

For me the down button clicks if left a couple of seconds between pushes while the up button never clicks.

i'd like to know I'm getting one that's better before swapping otherwise it's not worth the inconvenience.

I'm in Australia if that makes any difference to the batches being sent out.

  • I have a Revision D version and after 1 month the buttons have started to go mushy. The UP button is the worst followed by the LIGHT button. I have messaged Garmin support and they have agreed to replace it but I'm wondering I will have the same issue again. We need a Revision E!

  • Revision D Tri bundle here. After one month the watch is still perfect. A half marathon, a lot of running and pool swimming and each of the buttons are perfect. They are clicky as expected. :) I just wanted to let you know.

    really appreciate your feedback

had the A-version and it ruined the fun using the watch

    happy & safe sporting

  • Same - my wife and I bought our 945s around Thanksgiving, and they're both still perfect.  I am training for a spring full and she's got a half iron on the docket, so you can imagine we're doing just insane amounts of training.  The buttons on both watches are as good as new.  Totally happy with the watches, except I have that nasty battery drain bug (I don't quite have a big enough issue to justify beta firmware though...).

  • Have replaced my  5Z602 with Up/Down mushed buttons. Now have 5Z606 and now mushy Start/Back.
Garmin what's the problem? It's not cheapest sport watch...

  • i had a Rev A (5W900xxx) from June 2019, replaced in September with Rev C (5W902xxx) and replaced it again End of Dec / Beginning of Jan with Rev D (5W903xxx)

Rev A (5W900xxx) was worst with all buttons (no click feeling, had to always visually confirm any button press)
Rev C (5W902xxx) was more or less quite fine for about 1 month, then light and back button started to be not clicky anymore at all again (had again to visually confirm each press, if it really happened)
even Rev D (5W903xxx) now is not 100% fine, as (for now) the up button is missing the click-feeling most of the time, but at least it works so far.

just have Rev D it since a week now - will see what time will bring - guess in 1 month i know more.

  • I've owned the 945 for 5 weeks now and it's getting very bad (but they've never been clicky at all anyway)... UP and START buttons are so bad that I fear they will get stuck soon. After every run I make sure to thoroughly clean it, submerging it in water and using the buttons under water as well (someone here was suggesting to do this to improve the buttons). No luck! The box says Rev D in the bottom right corner and Rev A on the other side.

I'm in the middle of my Marathon Training so I don't want to get it replaced now. Also, I'm reading about users who got it replaced many times and saw no improvements.

I'm so close to give up.

    Suggestions?

    :-(

  • Garmin has never announced that issue with buttons has been fixed. There is no any official statement for replacement some affected revisions or SN. Only Garmin-Blake said here that some improvements were made. But he did not said that it was fixed at 100% and in which exactly revision it was improved.

All this can be treated as:
    - According to feedback here, even revision D is affected, but statistically less.
    - Garmin did not fix the issue or even promise to fix it for 100%
    - Garmin do not do other improvements to the buttons since last message from Garmin-Blake.
    - Seems the issue is considered as resolved by Garmin and we will not see any new improvements.

    What to do?
    1. Just use as is if it is not broken.
    2. Replace once and replace again while you will not get what you want.
    3. Sell 945 and buy another model/brand.
    4. Ask Garmin again to fix the issue and wait.

  • Right, thanks for your answer and I'm personally leaning to option 3.

    Cheers

  • Hi Aurelie - get in touch with Garmin and ask for an "express replacement"; they'll charge your credit card, ship you out a new one immediately, and then refund your money when the old watch is received back.  I've done this several times over the years with them, and it's never been a hassle.  Good luck!!
