Swimming OHR finally here!

The new 2.64 Beta finally allows the OHR to be turned on for swimming! Has anyone had a chance to try it out? I'm hoping to be able to squeeze in a swim tomorrow to try it out.

  • Well since we can't use 2 HR monitors at the same time, that seems complicated.

Nothing is 100% accurate with a GPS watch anyway. Staring with the principal thing : pace / speed

Power meters : not 100% accurate
HR monitors : not 100% accurate
    footpods : not 100% accurate

So, even if you compare data from HR swim with OHR, how do you know which one gives you the righ HR ?
Because you decide the swim is the most accurate ?

even with the same HR band, 2 devices will not record exactly the same (already tried with the 945 and 1030)

Results I had with OHR shows that for the same effort it corresponds to the HR readings I get from the HRM swim/tri. So, for the moment ... good enouth for me

  • Today i'll made a comparison between integrated OHR and Polar OH-1 that is almost equal to HRM-Swim, i'll post result here!

  • Happy to see that this feature comes in series! I was waiting more than 3 years for it. I do not like to swim with the HRM swim, because there is always the risk that it become loose and then you have a high water resistance and you cannot continue to swim.  It is also not easy to pull the strap harder during swimming. I cannot wait to get a series software with that feature, because I am not a fan of beta SW. Even if the accuracy is not perfect, it is fine for me.

  • I am looking forward for it. That would be great!

  • So show us some swims recorded with OHR and comparative swims recorded with a strap. Doesn't have to be recorded at the same time to get an indication of the veracity of the data.

Not interested in exactly, although that would be nice. But my previous experience with OHR in the swim is so far from reality it's untrue. I know how I feel when working with a heart rate around 130-140 yet I have data from swimming with WHR suggesting my heart rate is over 160 and climbing towards 200. Yes it is indicative of my effort, but it is certainly nowhere near my true heart rate.

As for comparison. Swim hard. Stop and look at the heart rate number the watch is showing and take a manual count at the same time. Repeat.

  • Here you are my result:

This is HR from Polar OH-1:

and this is heart rate from integrated FR945 OHR:

    this is entire activity:

This is my previous activity but i haven't any data from Polar OH-1

As we can see, intense workouts are not measured correctly (1st activity), less intense workouts seems more realistic even if i can't compare with OH-1, when i swim straight 1500m i push softer than 10x100m for example...

However, a lot depends from band, i have to fit it a little bit tighter when i swim, today for example i have another band and i didn't find a correct position (too tight or too loose)...

  • Thanks for this. It's good to see that the pattern of the exercise is followed. Which one do you feel is closer to your usual exercise heart rate? For instance, what is your heart rate when you run at an aerobic pace?

  • Sure Polar OH-1 is closer to my real heart rate, when i run at aerobic page heart rate are about 10-15 higher then when i swim.

  • thanks renton82 for the reports.

well 10-15bpm less is not negligible but if we can check that such difference is steady on time for intense workout it gives a good idea of the workout and zones of activity (shape seems to be accurate enough)

  • Nice to see this new feature! Gave it a quick try, and compared it with readings from HRM-Swim and HRM-Tri. Wrist HR seems to give slightly higher readings during my first test. Will do more testing. Made a short video on it: https://youtu.be/TiG_e1SFTv4 . Skip to 2:15 for the DC Analyzer charts.
