GPS Accuracy

Didn't find thread about the subject in 945 forum, so let's start. There was something about the GPS soak and best setting for UK.

What are your experiences and what GPS setting are you using?

I had been using 935 with GPS+Galileo and set the same to 945 and the accuracy seems to be worse.

Maybe I need to switch to GPS+GLONASS as it's what has been optimized more by Garmin atm, what I've understood.

Not that I disbelieve you but it would be nice to see some tracks for comparison. My experience would suggest that the GPS is better than earlier Garmin watches. Unfortunately I have no Polar, Suunto or Amazfit devices to compare so I would be very interested to see the difference.

I ran up the coast this morning,mostly open sky, but the back end was surrounded by cliffs on one side and ocean on the other. I found the tracking to be quite good (still keeping my FR935 just in case that changes).

Only weird glitch I found was the watch told me it was out of memory, and looks like it went to recording every km, rather than every second (I have logged support ticket).

It even captured the point I went to the water bubbler!

GPS only - gonna try with GLONASS +GPS next one.

Sounds like it went into Ultra mode which makes sense if there is little memory left. Have a look at the file structure and see what’s eating your space. Do you have extra maps, loads of music/podcasts/audiobooks, activities etc? If so then cut them down to leave space on the device.

That's whats weird about it...

The watch is mostly empty. Showing 12GB free storage. The ACTIVITIES folder only had todays run, but the history on watch had previous watch (my FR935) data.

This was first proper run with the watch so wouldnt expect it to be full.

Is there a hidden folder, are they limited storage per folder? And I thought it should overwrite the oldest activity if full, thats at least what it mentions in the manual

What file size is it showing for todays run? The longest activity i've completed with my 945 was 6hrs 30mins, and even that with recording set to 1 second, only resulted in an 800kb .fit file.

Yep that looks about right. 3.5 hour resulted in 379kb file.

Do you have a Mac? Files in the trash don’t come off of the device until the trash is emptied. Wonder if it is that.

Good thought, no I have PC and by default all system and hidden files visible.

Next guess. Do you use Deezer or Spotify? Th encoded music files are hidden

No neither. Dont even have an account. I will try and run an activity all day tomorrow and see if it runs out of memory.
