Bluetooth headphones disconnecting

Hey all,

I'm having issues with the connection to my headphones disconnecting randomly (but usually only once in the first five or so minutes of my run). I had a FR245 music before and bought the 265 hoping to solve the issue. Since it didn't, I also bought new headphones, but the problem still exists. There was one small improvement though: the 245 would often hang for a few minutes trying to reconnect and often it would fail to do so while the 265 seems to at least handle the reconnection better. I only use the Spotify app for playing music.

Does anyone recognize this or have suggestions to fix?

  • With my experience when the watch was faulty it disconnected completely after a few minutes rather than just dropping in and out.

I have experienced the drop out issue issue too but that was the fault of the headphones not the Garmin Forerunner (airpods worked fine but amazon headphones had unstable bluetooth connection).

  • Thanks for the response. I put it down to the watch as got a replacement pair of Soundcore headphones and had same issue, but It sounds like it might be the headphones after all.

I will buy a different pair and see if that stop the problem!

  • Okay so progress report. Garmin replaced the watch and now all the headphones that didn't work before work fine so it was def a problem with the watch. Still a bit disappointed it took multiple tries and a lot of time and annoyance, but I'll hopefully have forgotten all about that soon :)

  • In reply to 2061945,

Same here. It would disconnect, and then I'd have to reconnect it by going to the Spotify app and pressing play again. It'd then try and reconnect. Sometimes it worked in one try, but most often it took more than one try.

  • I'm having a similar problem with my Beats Fit Pro, but not with other cheap earbuds I have. Also with the Beats it seems to happen when running, but not while just listening to music without any ongoing activity. Not sure if it's the phone that goes in a power saving mode (battery is not low) or if it's down to the earbuds.

When it happens I need to manually reconnect them so it's pretty annoying and they keep doing it every 10 minutes or so.

    Any advice?

  • I returned the first watch and got a new one. No problem whatsoever with the new watch and the same earphones. It seems to be related to the hardware in some watches.

  • Thanks a lot.. apparently it does the same problem also without an activity ongoing.. I just tried..

How can I ask for it to be replaced?

  • I had bought it at Amazon and they just replaced the watch.

  • I'm happy to report that following installation of the latest beta 18.15 I did not get any disconnection so far with my cheap redmi buds.
Before this update I would always get at least one disconnection during my runs.

  • nice to hear. how did you get the beta? I'm still on 17.26

I tested a few times at work and it seemed ok but I went for a run earlier and it disconnected multiple times. No clue what to do. I contacted Garmin support but they just sent a link (already checked and useless) and terminated the chat
