Bluetooth headphones disconnecting

Hey all,

I'm having issues with the connection to my headphones disconnecting randomly (but usually only once in the first five or so minutes of my run). I had a FR245 music before and bought the 265 hoping to solve the issue. Since it didn't, I also bought new headphones, but the problem still exists. There was one small improvement though: the 245 would often hang for a few minutes trying to reconnect and often it would fail to do so while the 265 seems to at least handle the reconnection better. I only use the Spotify app for playing music.

Does anyone recognize this or have suggestions to fix?

  • Since you got your new watch, have you had any problems again? Thanks for the info.

  • Did you end up finding a solution? Thanks.

  • The replacement watch still works fine - no disconnects (except with cheap £25 headphones from Amazon) .  It works fine with Apple Airpods and Aftershokz

  • Garmin support said: "We can't guarantuee every headset works on our devices". And that was it. So basically, in my case, Garmin shipped out a defective product and refused to replace it, and there's basically nothing you can do about it.

  • After posting the message this morning I tried contacting support one more time, and I can now ship my watch to Garmin. I'll report on my progress... maybe it'll still end well :)

  • I believe some units have a less powerful BT antenna than others.
This could be one of the causes for the connection to drop.
If the master earbud is one the same side as the watch, these disconnections are less frequent. At least in my experience.
One thing to try is to use the watch on the other arm or figure out which earbud is the master and see if that can be changed someway.

Maybe a further firmware update will lower the threshold for BT disconnection

  • Same problem. FR 265S bought in Canada in August. Headphones disconnects every 1-10 minutes (sometimes it does not connect).

All headphones works well with a FR 245 Music that I a have, so the problem is not the headphones. Firmware and sensors updated.

So, Gamin is selling products with known issues/ technical problems.

I sust send a message to the customer support.

    Let's see.

  • Same problem for me with my new Forerunner 265.

I will go for run, it will be fine for first few minutes, but then will keep dropping in and out every second for about 10 minutes, then will work again for 10 minutes, before it drops out again.

I thought was the Soundcore P20i earbuds that were the problem, so contacted their support and they sent me out a replacement, but the same issue happens with those also, really frustrating!
