Deleted all of my music and even connection to my phone AGAIN !!!!!!!

Time and time again, my 255 Music will (usually after I've done a software update on it) decide to delete my entire music library (Amazon Music plus mp3s) which is almost 700 songs, plus the Amazon Music app sometimes.

I go to access my music this morning and even though I've not updated it recently, it had deleted all of the music, the Amazon Music app and my phone had lost connection to the watch altogether. I've gone through the usual frustrating and time consuming hassle of after adding the watch as a new device all over again, adding the AM app and now currently adding all of my music which takes a few hours.

Any Garmin employees reading this - why oh why oh why does this type of thing keep happening ? It really drives me up the wall ! Has anyone else had this problem either in the past or recently ? I'm not sure if turning my Bluetooth and Wifi off at all times and only turning on Bluetooth when adding an activity will limit this happening.

The ONLY reason I persist with Garmin is as it has onboard music streaming apps like Spotify and Amazon. If they didn't, I would just move to Coros or Suunto as I give up with Garmin.

  • Has anyone else had this problem either in the past or recently ?

Yes, i had have the same experience with my Spoty - after fw update all my tunes about 200 was gone. I was out for a run and i was  v e r y  angry and disappointed without my music... First what i done after a run - disabled all autoupdates and do a half-hour sync again.  Slight smile

  • Thanks for the reply. I go through stages of having my BT/WiFi on or off as it saves battery having BT off but easier to upload activities when they're always on. I always tend to get a notification to tell me software updates are available but I'm guessing it occasionally updates the watch automatically without telling me too (I do have Auto Update turned on).

I've now turned Auto Update off plus BT/WiFi off too. It's a bit of a hassle turning BT on and then off again just to upload an activity but it seems the less the watch is connected to anything, it might stop these music deleting incidents happening.

  • I need to go online every few weeks to keep my downloaded Spotify playlists valid. Otherwise it will refuse to play them. I guess it checks if I am still paying for Spotify Premium.

  • I assume you also need to go online every time you want to upload an activity too ? I guess every time you turn on Bluetooth or WiFi there is a chance all music could be deleted again. Yes I need to turn WiFi on occasionally to continue to use Amazon Music too.

  • I have bluetooth pretty much always off, Wifi always on, and autosync off. I typically sync 1-2 times per day manually.

  • I think I’ll leave Bluetooth and WiFi both off all of the time and just sync after an activity and then turn them off again. It’s as if I’m better off never updating my watch just to keep my music intact. Thanks for the reply

  • My watch has just done it again !!!! I just decided to check if there were any updates available and there was. I installed it (it was only a small update as it took about 1 min to install) and the watch restarted, which is normal.

Then I thought I’d double check whether everything was intact but no !!! Alll 130 odd mp3s had been deleted along with the Amazon Music app and 3 AM playlists (about 400 songs). I now have to spend hours putting all of my music back on again. It’s beyond infuriating !!!

I think I’m going to now never check for any updates and just leave it on the current software. I’m sure I’d prob be missing out on bug fixes or extra features but I’m out of patience with it now. I will prob call Garmin about it too to see what they have to say about it
