Triangle of death. No fix for forerunner 255

Garmin. What the *** are you guys doing. I've had the blue triangle stuck on my watch for over a week now. I can't turn the watch off. Can't do any rest and I can't find any solutions from you or the general community. Sort your system out or I want a full refund. You are suppose to be one of the top brands in the market. But right now I'd be more happier with a much cheaper product that actually works.

  • Have you spoken to support , I normally start with chat option (see base of link)

    support.garmin.com/.../

  • just go to support, this is users forum and it's unlikely anyone here will help your tantrum

  • Probably not. But mediators of this forum will see how messed up their products are. Hundreds of thousands of them. Plus I have already been to customer support. And it's the same answer as all the other questions related to this issue. Which goes. "sorry for the inconvenience. We are working on fixing the issue and will get back to you with a solution as soon as possible"

  • I think most users are quite happy with their watches. Yours is probably broken.

  • second that, it's isolated case, so chase support for repair or replacement. you were simply unlucky. we can and do complain about other garmin issues, sure we do

  • I'm having a similar issues with my forerunner 255s after the most recent update so not all users are happy.

I was able to get the watch out of the boot loop by forcing it to power off (by letting the battery die or holding the light button until it shut off) and then plugging it into a charger and powering it on while plugged in.

I'm also very frustrated with my experience because I haven't been able to use the watch properly for weeks now because it crashes in the middle of an activity (see my other recent posts on this forum for detailed descriptions). Watch was working just fine before the recent update.

  • I've aslo been having constant crashes since 23.20 on my 2022 255S Music. Most I have gone since 15 may is 2 days without a crash (watch frozen, sometimes able to trigger a hard reset with light button, often crashing 3 seconds later after boot up, and often ending up in a black screen that I cannot recover from with a hard reset unless I let battery run dead and plug it into a charger cable, sometimes also just connecting to a charger cable is enough to bring it back to life but then when I unplug it it freezes again frequently within seconds or minutes...and then sometimes it runs fine for a day.)

I've been in contact with support for 2 (3?) weeks now, they have offered me a replacement watch but at a 139 eur price tag since it is out of warrantee. I don't understand why I need a new watch since this seems pretty strongly correlated with the software update. And also I would have a higher expectation than a 3 year lifetime before failure for the price I paid.

What is compeltely idiotic is that they do not support a rollback of the software version, which would let me confirm if it really is a physical problem with my watch (which again I would be pretty damn disappointed in) or if it is just that the software upgrade screwed it up (for some reason with my serial number / hardware version for example).

I am now collecting random links from people's google drives where they have stored backups of the firmware update files. (I've always updated via my phone / wifi, but it seems that if you update by usb cable, the garmin express software leaves copies of the various versions of the firmware lying around on your hard drive, which you can find if you look hard enough).

Unfortunately, so far, I have found only firmware files for the 955 and the 255, while I have a 255 music. Does anyone happen to have older firmware files for the 255 Music?

(like the ones shared here: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-255-series/398885/forerunner-255-dynamic-source-switching-off-lactate-threshold-values-fixed-lt-guided-test-restored)

I may just go rogue and try the 255 files out on my 255 music. It would be nice if the support people would just send me the actual correct firmware file for an older OS for my watch. I will try calling them again.

If anyone here happens to have a 255 Music they have been updating via USB and would mind sharing a link to the firmware files, I would be very grateful.
