Agreed. Now that Training Readiness as launched on the $299 Instinct 2 (as of firmware Beta 13.10) Garmin has no solid basis to keep this from the $349 Forerunner 255.
Agreed, there's literally no reason why the 255 shouldn't get TR, all the necessary metrics are there plus the 265 has it, they are the same watch!!
In reality, we have to embarrass and force Garmin to bring these features to our Forerunner 255, considering that FTP is in the manual and was never implemented and that Training Readiness will be added…
The music version is even more expensive at $399.
The Forerunner 255 series is a training watch. The Instinct 2 is an adventure watch.
The Forerunner 255 series was released on 1 Jun 2022. The Instinct 2 was released on 9 Feb 2022.
Garmin told Desfit and DC Rainmaker that Training Readiness was not coming to the 255.
But is the training readiness really a useful metric? We have all the information it is based on, like sleep scores, stress levels, body battery, recovery time, HRV levels and training load. Sometimes these data are not correct either. Maybe you know that you did not sleep well even if you got a good score, and that you were relaxed even when you got a high stress warning. This way we can see the entire picture, including how our muscles feel, and make a lot better judgement of our training readiness than our watch can.
Good point, but it's the principal of it that sucks. They managed to find resources to code into a cheaper watch with a very unique UI that released before the 255, while it is literally stripped away from the (955) firmware for the 255.
Personally, I will take the hill and endurance score over training readiness, but we missed out on those as well. It's strange that they are not trying to push the endurance score to more watches as the Endurance Score is sport-agnostic and your Endurance Score is comparable with other peoples Endurance Scores. The comparable part is not very useful if the score is only available on higher end watches. This is Garmin once again shooting themselves in the foot like they did with Garmin Pay. If you want to drive adoption of a feature, get it onto your best sellers.
Ovekvam, very good point, and very well written. I am pretty happy with all the available features, using them everyday and adding a personal feel, common sense judgment on top of what I see on the screen. Yes, indeed sometimes results are not 100% accurate, I can live with it as well, tech is developing, getting better, perhaps in 10 years it will be more accurate. Apple Watch is quite precise with most of the sensor readings but I could not live with the everyday changing must. Compromises. As Aslam said addition of TR it is more a matter of principle. I would also like to see the endurance score and hill score, but I didn’t thought about it at first place. For me lack of cycling FTP is a big disappointment as I do cycle a lot and do the hard efforts both on road and MTB. FTP was described as available in the 255 manual when it was released but it never worked, this is a big failure. This should be rectified as well! Anyway, thanks for all your comments guys and let’s hope that decision makers in Garmin are hearing our voice !
Considering that the cycling FTP is an advertised feature of the fr 255 (see here forums.garmin.com/.../fr255-is-missing-ftp-auto-detection my post ) and that, despite that, it was never released on the fr 255, Garmin HAS to make amends in some way. Giving us training readiness could be a way to do that.
In reality, we have to embarrass and force Garmin to bring these features to our Forerunner 255, considering that FTP is in the manual and was never implemented and that Training Readiness will be added in a down line with worse hardware, do we have to do that? Is there any means of direct contact with Garmin, let's all get these resources together, unity is strength
