FTP and Training Readiness!

We need the new firmware update to include FTP (cycling) test capability and Training Readiness! Garmin why are you denying those for 255?

  • We posted about this a lot and Garmin ignored it. So I think there is nothing to do on that front (contacting Garmin).

The only thing that comes to mind that could make Garmin more "aware" of this would be to notify the major Garmin youtubers of this ...fraud, hoping that they will mention it in one of their videos. With fraud I mean the missing FTP functionality, after it was (AND STILL IS!!!) clearly publicized as a feature.

  • Making noise in public and high visibility places, such as their social media comment section or better yet, getting big YouTubers to publicize this problem would be the most effective way to get Garmin's attention. Emailing them directly is also important: [email protected]

  • Last month I sent an email to the address that has provided (garmin support email) where I explained that the cycling FTP was missing but was still publicized on the website. They answered asking me to send them more informations on where I had found this function publicized. I provided them the links to the 255 product page and also to the comparison page between the 955 and 255, showing them that the function was shown to be present like it is on the 955. I've sent them screenshots too.

After this email from me, they never replied back. I've emailed them again one week ago and still nobody has answered. The function is still currently publicized on Garmin's website.

  • I have a Venu 2s, I'm happy with it but I think I'm gonna change for a more oriented sport watch, honestly Coros with their new Pace 3 is a super great deal, but I want to stay with Garmin, I don't want to buy a 265 either, so I'll see what Garmin does, I would like the Training Readiness on 255, so I'll wait and see and it will dictate my next buy.

  • You will wait forever waiting for Training Readiness to come to the 255. You rather wait for the 265 to go on sale instead.

  • I'm not waiting since I didn't bought the watch. Anyway, the point being that cheaper and older Instinct watch have it, I agree that you can live without it but the 255 is just 1 year old watch. I get it they want to keep it for 265 but whatever its their decision.

  • Garmin better watch (pun intended) the competition tho ;)

  • I do not agree with these software restrictions. I find it extremely annoying and trivial. It makes it extremely difficult to pick a watch. Take the 265 vs the Venu 3, same price at $449, similar hardware, different software features. The 955/965, higher prices, but they will not get all of the features that the Venu 3 has. But the Venu 3 will most likely not get any feature updates going forward. How do you pick a watch? Yes, there is the Epix/Fenix, but not everyone wants a case with lots of presence/heft.

The hardware/processing power on the 255 and 955 is the same. Training Readiness was basically deleted from the firmware to create segregation. I have been a beta tester for many of years now. This is just how Garmin works. If does not come when the other watches get it, it's not coming at all. They will not change mind.

  • It makes sense for them to have certain features not present even if the hardware can support it. I can even understand that. It's not true they cannot change their mind though if competition force their hand or their community. Look at the Instinct 2X which had features that the Instinct 2 had not. Community got pissed and they added it. The result is now that the Instinct 2 a cheaper watch has features not present on the 255.

  • So I see that there is no way out but to change brands, for example Coros, which apparently does not have this limitation of brand resources. Another issue is that misleading advertising is a crime according to the Consumer Protection Code and if the resource such as FTP is in the manual and does not remove it, it must be implemented.
