Track Run still not calibrating (latest software 13.23)

Hello ,

this is a follow up to the below post regarding track run the doesn't calibrate. The post was locked becaused it is supposed that the issue resolved with the previous software release, however the issue persists.

https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-255-series/308881/track-run-mode-not-calibrating

I have installed the latest software version 13.23, I started a track run in a sunny day with the GPS locked a minute before I start running, on the first lane with a standard easy run pace doing 4 complete rounds and a few meters more.

But as you can see in the screenshot below it failed to calibrate once again.

Is it an issue that Garmin cannot resolve on the FR255 or could be a hardware issue on my device?

At your disposal if you need any additional information

Thank you for your support

  • We have been unable to reproduce this on any FR 255 Series devices running 13.23 sw.  We recommend that you update to 14.13 (when available) and retest.

  • I have the same problem on my Fenix 7 (soft. 11.28) on all track runs, these problems started to appear since last two software updates.

  • Having the same issue on a Fenix 6S with latest firmware. Each time I start a running track activity it takes a couple laps to lock onto the track, then remains calibrated until the end of that session. But the calibration doesn't save. If I end that and start a new run on the same track, it needs another couple laps to calibrate. No matter what I do, I can't get it to save the calibration. Nothing under the "RunningTrack" folder on the watch.

I worked with Garmin support and they ultimately told me to send my watch back for a replacement. Same issue is happening with the replacement, so it wasn't a watch specific issue.

Of note, I'm also experiencing an issue with track run workouts reported on another thread by various people (link here). No idea if they're related, but in my case I noticed both start around the same time, and both still happening on a replacement watch.

  • Decided to dig a little bit more and found a file called "TPT_BACKUP_FILE_343.bak" in the root folder of my watch. The timestamp is the exact time I finished my latest track run.  In a previous chat with Garmin support, I was told those are autosave backup files when the watch runs into an unexpected error.  The fact it was created when I finished my track run session leads me to think that the watch is encountering a problem saving the track calibration, spitting out that file.
