FR 255S Music, (12.27) Music stopping during an activity

Using first generation Apple Airpods. Music will be working fine for a few minutes and then stop. I need to reconnect my airpods each time. It's been working fine for months before this, so not sure if it is due to a recent software update or what's going on.

  • With the latest firmware

What version are you on now? I've had two updates in a short time. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to do any real testing (or, more importantly, to move) lately. I am now on 13.21.

  • I’m on 13.21.
even when just sitting at my desk the music just stops playing after maybe 1-2 minutes.

I gave up on all the trying and testing and I will be just waiting until next update although I think it is more of a hardware / design problem.

  • Maybe a compatibility issue between Garmin and Apple? The music has never stopped playing by itself with my Miiego headset.

  • Maybe. I don’t know.
All I can say is that the music stops and connection to the earbuds is lost. I can start playing music but it always has to first make the connection. Once connected it might play a bit again and then looses its connection again.

  • Yesterday I did an hour indoors (elliptical trainer), today I also tested the watch for a little over an hour (tempo walk). For me, it worked reliably this time. Of course, I will only dare to say that everything is OK for me after further tests, but for the time being it looks promising.
Hint: I did a headphone (Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro) removal and then re-pairing.
    Software version: 13.21

  • As I am typng this message I coupled the Beat Earbuds pro again with the FR255 music watch 13:21 rev and started to play some music in shuffle mode. At the same time I started an activity (running).

Let's see how long it plays music this time.

  • Yesterday I had an outdoor activity where I left my iphone at home and wanted to give it another try to play music from the watch.

First I started playing the music and then started the outdoor activity. (without wearing the Garmin HRM)

Unfortunately the music stopped after 1-2 minutes, so I pressed the play button again and the watch was making a connection with the Beats Fit pro earbuds. The it played for another 1-minutes and it stopped again.

no change with latest firmware I'm afraid.

  • I have the same issue with different earphones.

  • I have the same issue you are having with my 255 Music. I have tested the following with versions 13.21 and 13.23:

AirPods Pro (1st gen), Shokz open run, JBL 11BT (which are on Garmin’s compatibility list)  https://support.garmin.com/en-SG/?faq=Ei9hOoQIVL1UsQLQqm21G8

All have constant drop outs and disconnects within minutes. I have tried wearing on R & L wrists. I have done full resets on watch and headsets. Nothing has solved the problem so far. It is inexcusable that this device cannot reliably do what is in the product name, “Music”.  All of these headsets work reliably with my iPhone, Apple Watch, Spotify might, etc.  It’s Garmin, they need to fix this!
