Music stops playing during an activity - Forerunner 255 music edition

Hi,

I have a forerunner 255 music edition and found that playing music via the watch is really bad and basically useless.

I have latest SW on the Garmin watch 12.27 and use Beats Fit pro earbuds. I wear my watch on my left arm.

All works fine when I play music via my iphone IOS 16.1 but when I leave my phone at home and want to play music via the watch it stops all the time when I'm doing an activity.

I tried all the usual things like removing the earbuds connection from the watch and setup like new a few times, reboot the watch. The music plays fine as long as I don't do any activity with the watch. In parallel I use the HRM pro plus HR monitor. Running with or without does not make any differences.

I also tried to disable all notifications during an activity but no difference. The problem starts with a short stuttering of the music and then after a while (maybe 2 minutes) the music stops completely and connection to the earbuds is lost. They don't reconnect automatically which is a pain.

Any ideas mr. Garmin since I see that this is a common issue.

  • I contacted Garmin via chat and they pointed me in the direction of FAQ page were the compatible Bluetooth headsets are listed. Beats fit pro are not listed. So they said that these earbuds might not be 100% compatible. I was not too happy with such answer. I also wonder who is checking such things before you buy a watch.
anyway I will have to keep using my phone when listening to music.

  • It's ridiculous. Can you give me a link?
After a quick search I found this: https://support.garmin.com/en-SG/?faq=Ei9hOoQIVL1UsQLQqm21G8
Well, if that's all the earbuds that Garmin watches are compatible with, there is big trouble.

    I just found this: forums.garmin.com/.../headphone-experience-et-compatibility
Might be worth posting here, or scrolling through the comments.

As if it was just me:

I wear my watch on my left wrist and have had the music stop transmitting to two different headset styles - JLab Epic & Jabra. the headsets remained connected and I could control the music selection from the headset but music was not transmitting. I gave up and returned the 255

  • It gets more and more frustrating as I dig into the subject: forums.garmin.com/.../headphone-compatibility-experience-table

  • Have a Huawei Buds PRO (BT5.1) about 1 year long. No issues before - on Tablet, on Phone, on Notebook. Can hold connected to the 2 Devices simultaneously, about 10 meters work range. Was all fine until fr255m. Main problem on fr255m are dropouts if i hold my watch more as 40cm from my head. All other devices are OK - no range problems til 10m. I release new running style - "hands up" aka Garmin-style. Ha-ha. Really silly.

  • For me it's more complicated or even weirder than that.
I have no problem with the range. When the music stops playing, the connection is not lost, but I can't continue listening music (even though the play/pause function works via the earpiece, and I can see it's playing music, since the time counter changes). The watch also shows that the connection between the watch and the earpiece is alive. In my case there are not really interruptions, but it stops once and that's it. So far it's completely random. I can't figure out the cause.

Did you write to support? It would be worthwhile for them to face the problem from as many directions as possible.

    • Yes I wrote to support but got a standard answer that the beats fit pro are not in the compatible list which is a stupid answer.
anyway. After that I was asked to fill out a survey from Garmin in which I expressed how dissatisfied I was with such answer and I encouraged them to contact me so I can explain in detail.
      So far no feedback.
  • Yes, it becomes hilarious. I use to say that “you only learn how good a company really is when their product fails”!!

  • With the last beta 13.5 Huawei FreeBuds Pro works much better, no dropouts at all. Well done Garmin!

Have tested w/o external BT/ant+ sensors at last run ca 40 min.

  • Sounds promising. Will wait until they release it.
