Battery Drain

Previous questions directed me to a locked thread.

My 255 was at 100%. I went to an event for 1:30.  When I got home I was at 82%. It kept dropping rapidly.   I restarted the watch which seemed to get it out of its funk, but what if it had been during a race? I got the Garmin after my Apple did this during a couple of races.

Is there a fix?

  • When I bought the 255 just 4 months ago, the battery lasted between 12 and 14 days. Now, doing firmware updates, it lasts about 6 days.

  • Delio82…..Same thing!  I’m not sure what triggered my change but when I got my watch in October the battery lasted over a week.  Now it’s just a few days.

I found myself yesterday wondering if in a few months if I’ll get enough time out of the watch for a long race.  My Apple did not which was one reason for getting the Garmin.

  • My watch seems to have the same battery capacity as when it was new.

  • Yes, mine too.

FW 14.15 and still getting 8-10 days with lots of activities and 24/7 HR/activity/sleep tracking.
It‘s 1,5 days since last charge and yesterday I had no run. Battery is at 94% right now.

  • I have same issues.  After the latest update, the watch battery has been draining much faster than what it used to.  I could use the watch without recharging more than a week while running and exercising pretty regularly.  Now this morning it was fully charged and now at 6pm, it is down by 25%.  It never happened this way.  I just removed my device from my iPhone app and re-connected.  Let's see if this helps.  If this doesn't work, I plan to remove App and reinstalled and reconnect my watch.  I will keep you posed.

  • Have you also rebooted the watch and maybe done a soft reset with Garmin Express?

My FR255 does not drain after updating to 14.17 - I always reboot one time extra after updating

  • I removed my watch from Garmin Connect and then reconnected my watch.  After that, it is not draining battery as fast as before.  I also read that activities are not sinking well after the update.  After it crashed once for sync, the battery started to drain fast, it's like it is trying to sync all the time.  Anyways, hope this helps others too.

  • Same issue here since last update. It's really strange as it seems battery consumption varies a lot. Noticed first a few days ago when a wake up with a died watch that had at least 25% charge when went to sleep. This night the watch consumed only 2% in a 7.30 hour sleep but since then it went down 6% in a couple of hours doing nothing. Used to have a pretty decent 6+ days of battery life with 50+kms running and plenty of other non GPS activities but now with a couple of days in already down to 20% and have to recharge it afraid of a died watch at anytime caused by a sudden rapid drain
