Software Update 6.20 Feedback

Software Update 6.20 is now available for the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music. These updates can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Changes made from 5.50 to 6.20

  • Improve the software update process for external accessories. Installation prompts will now appear after an activity to avoid interrupting activity start.
  • Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, and Stroke Distance.
  • Added descriptive workout step audio prompts.
  • Improvements to heart rate broadcast.
  • Add more smartphone app logos for smart notifications.
  • Block music controls and disconnect headphones in airplane mode. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix dropout issues on Jaybird Vista headphones. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix a rare issue that could cause heart rate data to appear flat in Garmin Connect.
  • Fix an issue that could prevent LiveTrack from starting when Auto Start is enabled.
  • Fix an issue with workout alerts when the background color is set to black.
  • Fix an issue sometimes causing distance remaining to not display the hundredths digit.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • IT was a major process. Took 4 tries but the watch had to go to factory reset on the watch. Then had to remove the watch from my Garmin connect profile (after manually backing up the files before the factory reset). Then had to shut down the GarminConnect Software, reboot my pc. Then restart the connect software and reconnect the watch. Then go through the software updater. And did that 3 times before it took.

But. 6.2 did nothing for the Bluetooth connectivity.

Finally, they sent me a return link for my watch (a bit over 1-year-old) and are replacing it with a "reconditioned" watch. Can't wait to see how this goes. In the meantime, I'm using a 9-year-old Nike watch I had in my drawer. Sucker still took a charge, connects to my PC and the battery lasts about 2 hours on runs, all day as a watch.

  • Do NOT return your watch for a reconditioned watch.  The issue is software related, not hardware related.  We're all experiencing it and Garmin are too useless/don't care to fix it even after all these months.

The reconditioned watch, unless it's running the old BT software, will have the exact same issue.

  • Nah, I'm returning it just to share the pain with them even though they'll never actually feel it. I've already narrowed down the replacement to two watches. Neither start with the letter GARMIN. This one I'll donate to a needy runner once I can get it to work.

  • The bluetooth connectivity to my headphones is way worse after the update. watch and headphones need to be much closer to have a constant connection. I used to wear the watch on the left arm since I bought it more than a year ago and connected it to a bluetooth headphone - it worked really well; now after the update, I do not get a stable connection anymore; impossible to listen to music or podcasts. Wearing the watch on the right wrist improves a bit, as the BT unit is on the right side of the headphone, but still not sufficiently well.

@Garmin: can you pl give an update when this is fixed? Otherwise the watch is not usable anymore and needs to be replaced. Thanks

  • When will it be possible to get the total distance announced every km (1 km, 2 km, 3 km, .....)?

  • I am experiencing the same issue. Updated to 6.2 about a week ago and the music feature is completely useless. BT constantly drops when it was not an issue before. Using Jaybird Tarah Pro with up to date firmware. Garmin 245 Music. It's bad enough I want to replace what was at one time a great fitness watch.

  • updated to 7.20 which didn't go well for the watch. factory reset watch with 7.20 and the BT issue has been resolved.
