Software Update 6.20 Feedback

Software Update 6.20 is now available for the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music. These updates can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Changes made from 5.50 to 6.20

  • Improve the software update process for external accessories. Installation prompts will now appear after an activity to avoid interrupting activity start.
  • Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, and Stroke Distance.
  • Added descriptive workout step audio prompts.
  • Improvements to heart rate broadcast.
  • Add more smartphone app logos for smart notifications.
  • Block music controls and disconnect headphones in airplane mode. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix dropout issues on Jaybird Vista headphones. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix a rare issue that could cause heart rate data to appear flat in Garmin Connect.
  • Fix an issue that could prevent LiveTrack from starting when Auto Start is enabled.
  • Fix an issue with workout alerts when the background color is set to black.
  • Fix an issue sometimes causing distance remaining to not display the hundredths digit.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • Is this the reason my Bluetooth and ANT sensor drops in and out. Issue happened today but still on 5.50. Still waiting to get update

  • Why is Power missing from new indoor rowing fields? It is there in 945 change log. Did anybody have an opportunity to test it?

  • Planning on testing this out at the gym tomorrow. Hopefully the PM5 does not require a firmware update as well for this to work.

Correct, the 245 change log only mentions Distance, Pace and Stroke Distance as new fields while the 945 change log mentions Distance, Power, Pace and Stroke Distance. Seems like Power was purposely omitted to create product differentiation?

The 245 also does not support cycling power meters? I guess Garmin sees it as a powerless mapless non climbing single activity version of the 945?

  • Cannot get update. Repeated attempts thru Garmin Express yield "You're up to date" message but still have software version 5.50. Anyone else having same problem? Have version 7.2.2.0 of Garmin Express running.

  • Have you not noticed it's currently only at 20% rollout? Only 1 in 5, that's 20% of random users will get the update.  The other 4 in 5, that's 80% and includes the likes of you and me will get it later when the rollout is increased.  There, wasn't so hard was it?

  • Hi Mark,

Thanks for your very helpful reply.

  • Maybe you want to look at the top of the Forerunner 245 thread which now says it's at 50%.  There even easier.

  • 2 questions:

Does this actually fix the headphone drop out issue?  This is the 2nd patch notes saying it's fixed, last time it didn't fix it at all.

And secondly, Garmin why do you keep specifically saying the dropout issue is with Jaybird Vista headphones when it affects so many BT headphones?

EDIT: Issue is NOT Fixed.  What a joke Garmin.

  • Took me a couple of tries. Try making sure Garmin Express is up to date, then connect your watch? Latest Garmin Express is 7.3.1.0

  • Thanks for input, have now updated Garmin Express to v7.3.1.0 but still not getting anywhere on 6.2 update for F245. Will just keep trying. M50 please do not feel the need to reply.
