Software Update 6.20 Feedback

Software Update 6.20 is now available for the Forerunner 245 and Forerunner 245 Music. These updates can be downloaded through Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile.

Changes made from 5.50 to 6.20

  • Improve the software update process for external accessories. Installation prompts will now appear after an activity to avoid interrupting activity start.
  • Added support for displaying metrics from an indoor rowing machine that supports the ANT FE-C profile (e.g. Concept 2 with the PM5 module). This includes new fields for the Indoor Rowing app: Distance, Pace, and Stroke Distance.
  • Added descriptive workout step audio prompts.
  • Improvements to heart rate broadcast.
  • Add more smartphone app logos for smart notifications.
  • Block music controls and disconnect headphones in airplane mode. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix dropout issues on Jaybird Vista headphones. Forerunner 245 Music only
  • Fix a rare issue that could cause heart rate data to appear flat in Garmin Connect.
  • Fix an issue that could prevent LiveTrack from starting when Auto Start is enabled.
  • Fix an issue with workout alerts when the background color is set to black.
  • Fix an issue sometimes causing distance remaining to not display the hundredths digit.
  • Other minor improvements and bug fixes.

  • I am having serious battery issues the past three days. Nothing has changed since the software update. Nothing like this has happened before in 1.5 years of owning the watch.

  • I contacted Garmin and they replied very quickly. I got 2 answers from them:

    Hello Pål,

I am sorry to hear that this has occurred. Do dropouts occur outside of an activity, and is it occurring both inside and outside? When the headphones disconnect, do they stay disconnected or is it just a drop then quick reconnect? Do the dropouts occur at the same time after starting an activity, or does it occur randomly?

So we may see what is occurring through the device itself, if possible use the steps provided in the following link and reply with a copy of the Garmin folder from the watch. If using a Mac computer, use code 9WWXD. Sending a Garmin Folder from a Device to Product Support

    Thank you for choosing Garmin,

  • No, 6.20 doesn’t fix the 5.50 high HR issue. Still spiking high and dropping low. I have worn an OH1+ armband at the same time and recorded on both. The armband shows lower max HR and higher lows. I know which readings I trust. I’ll continue with just using the OH1+ for HR until the next software update. Annoying that I have to do this because Garmin cannot sort out the mess they created with 5.50

  • No HR issue here, no spikes or really low drops.  Are you sure you're wearing your watch correctly?

  • Hi, since the update I am unable to control the Volume for my Jaybird Vista earphones. When I go to the volume settings and press Up or Down nothing is happening... When I press Up or Down button I see the - or + on the screen turn blue as a recognition of pressing the button but the sound volume does not change at all...

    Any idea's?

Bluetooth dropouts are still there also, most of the time when other riders/ walkers with probably active bluetooth on ride or walk by the connection drops for a second.

  • Since about a week, it takes a very long time (at least 10 to 15 minutes) for my forerunner 245 to pick the GPS signal. I am always running from the same starting point as before (my home). I have the feeling that this degraded performances came just after the days where I had a notification of "software updated to 6.20" on my watch. Anybody has a similar problem?

Also, is it possible to know when exactly the software update was applied? I could then know for sure if the problem came with the update or not.

Note that my GPS setting is set to "GPS + Glonass".

  • Living the same struggle, so anoying!

  • I can't seem to update from 5.60 to 6.20 has anyone else faced this issue?

  • I have been having the same issue, when I contacted support they asked me to update to the latest version of software. However for some reason I can't do that.
